OK, so we are hoping to visit again in May 2024 and I'm getting some pricing together so we can start to budget for our savings.

We ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS stay on-site at Universal and WDW however, it's just gotten so expensive to stay on-site now that I am looking at Vacation Villas which are 1/3 of the price for two to three times the amount of space, including private pools etc

BUT my question is, how do we then get to the parks?

I have NEVER driven in the USA before and to be honest just the thought of it is terrifying to me, this is a real fear of mine and with my kids in the car I just don't want to be a nervous driver. I am not from a city, so where I live we don't have a lot of traffic, I don't drive in Sydney etc as I am too scared to.

My kids will be 8 and 5 when we return to Orlando, and I do have mi-fold boosters which we use when on Vacation in the USA.

Would getting Uber be a possibility everywhere? like I said we have portable boosters for my kids.

I see most of the rentals I am looking at say "2 miles from Disneyland"

This will be my 13th trip but feel like a newbie when it comes to staying off property.

I love being in the Disney bubble but with flights being so expensive and park tickets, it's just not possible and we are itching to come back. Even with renting DVC points (which is what we usually do) it's still a lot cheaper to get a villa off site.

Ubers will be easy to get just about everywhere in Orlando. We used them a few times from the Contemporary and there was a driver in the parking lot waiting both times. You should download the Uber app and put in some of your destinations to get an idea of the costs and work that into your budget. If you are using it multiple times a day it could get pricey.

Yes, rideshare is plentiful around Orlando. Download both the Uber and Lyft apps and check both when you need a ride. Sometimes one is less expensive than the other at a given moment. I agree with practicing with the apps, especially if you’re able to do it at roughly the actual time you’d be traveling. It sounds like you live in Australia, though, so with the time differences that might not be feasible!

Be aware that the rideshare drop off for MK is at the TTC, then you take the monorail or ferry to the actual MK entrance. For the other parks it’s near the entrances.

I suggest downloading the Lyft app as well as the Uber app.

Sometimes one is cheaper than the other. Sometimes one will have a driver arrive sooner than the other. Sometimes one is less confusing for the other.

Also, check out their partnerships. For example, you can link your Lyft account to your Delta account, to earn Delta miles when you use Lyft. You can link your Uber account to your Marriott account. And once points are in a Marriott account, you might be able to transfer them elsewhere.

As PP said, you can download the app at home to get an idea of pricing. If you have "location services" set to "on" on your phone, the app will assume you want to be picked up wherever you are, so make sure you manually choose a pick up point and a dropoff point if you are doing this at home to get an idea of pricing.

You may have already found this forum, but in case you haven't, the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board has a lot of information about offsite lodging. Be sure to check the three Marriott Palms, the Sheraton Vistana Resort and Vistana Villages, and the Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek resorts. They're all very close and very convenient when visiting WDW and UOR.
