Only one FP at a time . . . right?

Wow. I never even considered that they would have your FP tickets connected to your park ticket so they actually know YOU already have a FP in your possession.
Sure. That's how you get your FP, right? So, your ticket bar code is scanned by the machine. It checks the system. The system sees that you just got a FP and does not allow another until the allowable time has passed. Likewise, I would imagine that the system tracks every ticket/pass that it issued a FP to, when, and where.

That means they can track ALL your (and everyone's) FP use and see trends, like stacking. I wonder what number cruncher gets that fun job (probably a computer).
I would imagine it is probably a computer that can tell them all sorts of interesting stats about FP usage and its users.

I don't go during high season (usually - this year will be the first time I'm going in the summer and it was an accident).

It may have been Star Tours specific, but I want to say he mentioned it happened with Space Mountain too, since that's our favorite ride and the one we usually stack for.

This happened during fourth of July week last year.

They know about the window, and it was a different message from the one you get if its not open for your window yet.

I don't know if a lot of people ran into it since I don't know if a lot of people try to stack 3-4 fast passes for the same ride, which is why it didn't make sense to us that they would go to such lengths to prevent it. :confused3

Well, we went the week after July 4th week and they did not do that. Like I said earlier, we got one FP for ST first thing with a return time about 9am. BEFORE we got in line to use it at 9am we got ANOTHER FP for ST with a return time in the afternoon. We then used our first FPs on ST within the return time window. (With it being so busy we didn't want to take a chance that they would enforce the return time on that ride). They did not scan FP or anything. So maybe what happen to you only happened over fourth of July? Because the next week we did hold two FP for ST at the same time if only briefly.

Yup, I'm getting brain fog. :)

Without a doubt Disney has a computer tracking FP usage trends and analysts interpreting the data. That's got to be a really excellent planning tool for crowd management and future development. I think it would be pretty cool as a job but I'm that kind of nerdy,

Yes, they tracks trends. But in general they do not track usage down to individual usage. They will not know if you are I actually used our FP or when. They just throw the used FPs into a box.
