Only Need a Car Rental for the Afternoon/Evening........

Do I book ahead or do I wait until I get there and go up to the counter?

Will I be penalized for bringing the car back earlier?

I would book ahead. The min. rental is one day. As to if you would be penalized, you would have to consult the specific car rental agency for their rules.

If it is only for a day I doubt you would be penalized. I would call and check.

When they charge for an early return is when people say they want a weekly rental for the lower charges and return it before the week is up. Then the rate goes back to a daily rate. You are only renting for a day so it shouldn't be a problem.

I would check the rates and make a reservation ahead of time. Sometimes online rates are cheaper than walk ups.

I checked out mousesavers and can get a real good price! but want to make sure I won't get penalized for bringing it back early!

You may want to see if you can beat your single day rate via Priceline. We have done single-day rentals several times and gotten great rates with no penalties. It's always either an onsite rental agency (most often Alamo or Avis) or Hertz, which is offsite but close by.
