Only need 75 pts, should I buy direct or resale?

I want to buy 75 SSR points. The current resale market is $115 per point and almost no available contracts. I could buy direct for $151 per point and have access to membership extras for the next 36 years.

I would love to take advantage of moonlight magic because I won't have park tickets for half the times I stay (I like the resorts but prefer universal and live 40 miles away). I would use my membership strictly for sat night getaways in a studio. I also would want to pool hop.

Do you guys feel that membership extras are worth $2,700 over the next 36 years? I'm 29 at the moment and already have 1 kid.

75 points exactly is definitely a hard number to come by. If your heart is set on the extra membership perks that you would receive as a direct purchaser, then by all means go ahead. If you're looking at saving a couple of bucks, you don't always have to go into the contract with what the seller is asking. For example, I just passed rofr, with $100 per point on a 100-point contract. But the decision is entirely up to you. They really are only going for the perks oh, and the membership extras, then buy Direct

Just as a thought-I don’t think MM nights are typically on weekends, so if you’re firm on Saturdays then you’d miss them anyway.

So you want points to make an on-site reservation to go to MMbut you won’t stay in the room? To each his own, but I sure wouldn’t throw points away that way-I don’t think the MM events are that exciting (it’d be cheaper to pay for an after hours event when you calculate your points at $17 per). However, if you are super excited at taking full advantage of these, then you definitely want to buy direct

I think she's saying she'd book a campground (cash) and not stay overnight to go to the MM events (during the week).

Her weekend stays would be in a studio on points for resort usage, pool hopping, etc.

I think a only 75 points purchase for a non-Florida resident family of 3 or more wanting APs and other discounts is a no-brainer. Buy direct. You'd make up the $2700 (probably more like $2300 or less because of closing cost differences, etc) in no time.

But buying for MM events only....?????... how will you feel if they discontinue MM in a few years? I think it's a gamble.

I value MM events like a party ticket. So, around $100ish per ticket. For only 2-3 (?) people and can only attend 1 per park per year and the dates can fill up fast, so no guarantee you will be able to attend the max. Plus you're throwing away a room (campsite). So, it'll take a lot of events to get the $$ value back.

All that being said, it's the only way to get in unless you know someone who can take you as a guest. So, it's your money. If that's what you want, do it.

Nope - not since you're a FL resident. The main perk that might make it worthwhile is access to purchase a Gold AP. You already have that and access to purchase the Silver AP.

I also would want to pool hop.

IMO the only perk worth considering is the pass discount and since it's not guaranteed, I'd want it to pay for itself in just 3-4 years at most. It sounds like you're just trying to buy to get a room for the other options and not even use it like some used to do with free dining, seems like a waste and lot of effort for minimal return if that's the case. Specific to your question I'd wait on resale but if buying makes sense, the difference isn't enough to make it a slam dunk. You might open up to other resorts or other contract sizes to improve your chances of success. I might wait and see what riviera looks like.

I’m going to assume that you want the membership for this, first.

And that the other things you’ve mentioned go into the question of “resale or direct”.

Fwiw I haven’t seen the inside of a Wdw park, other than a MM that fell into my lap over Princess 2017, since 2015.

Just hasn’t been part of the plans for that long. And I live near Seattle.

As a resale buyer you still have a digital membership card that you would show if necessary.

I'd probably buy direct for 75. Lock in whatever perks there are with an easy transaction and be done with it. More than 75, and you're talking a lot more money, but in the scheme of things, the 2K difference over a few decades isn't much and you never know what else may (or may not, I realize) come available.

Pool hopping cannot be restricted on a resale v. direct basis because of dues. They can cut a pool out for everyone, or cut it entirely. For everyone.

The biggest benefit to owning as a local is you can book single night stays in a studio. No other system is like that. Anything more than 75 points makes no sense because that's 5-6 getaways a year already. MM is a huge perk to me because I don't have to buy any park tickets to visit each park once a year. Gold/Silver passes are WAY too overpriced for FL residents. I currently plan my trips to fall on a weekday when I get off work and the park is open later, but even $289 a year per person for the weekday pass is pushing it.

For MM, I could just book a camp ground for $75 bucks cash for the night to get up to 10 passes. Unless I have little kids, I don't care to frequent the parks until they add intense rides like Universal has. Disney has the better hotels, but Universal has the better parks for repeat visits. I'd more frequently stay at disney on a saturday night, then go to universal/seaworld/disney/funspot sunday, then go home. I would value the MM perk as saving probably hundreds a year not having to buy 4 day tickets for $180 per person each year.


Do you have to have a Hotel booked to access top of the world lounge if you buy direct? That is also a huge perk I consider because I like having the 10-20% off dining and seeing the fireworks.

There are other variable on cost. If it takes you 6 months longer, you may lose the next reservation window and lose points because you crossover the UY. Resale will have higher closing costs. Resale often has higher maintenance fees because MOST overpay the dues resale. For such a contract size it's not likely to be fully loaded and points have value of roughly $7-8 pp (after dues). So the difference in the real world for this scenario and those prices is more in the $2000 or so range depending. Still nothing to sneeze at. Personally I wouldn't buy if I only thought I needed 75 points and I'd suggest you consider a larger contract as you'll likely need more than you think you will long term. Opening up to larger contracts will increase your chances of getting a loaded contract and really any contract, reduce your per point costs and give you usage options that you won't have if you're having to squeeze every point.

I do only need 75 points. I don't care to go more than 5-6 times a year and getting a room with a full kitchen is silly for just 1 night. I will get too burnt out if I go more frequently than that, or stay more than 1 night at a time. I already am tired of the parks.
