Only complaint: trash in hallways

We are just back from our first DVC Welcome Home and loved it. My only complaint was that trash lingers in the hallway forever. During the first part of our split stay at Animal Kingdom Villas Jambo House, a room down the hall from us put their breakfast room service dishes out in the hallway in the morning and they were still there when we came back from the parks late in the afternoon. Ugh! This was even more surprising given that we were the closest room to the lobby so there was plenty of traffic going by all day long. Then in the second part of our split at Bay Lake Towers, the room across the hall left their delivery pizza boxes in the hallway then added a a bag of trash, all of which lingered for the better part of a day.

I wonder if keeping the hallways tidy is a task which falls between the cracks of Mousekeeping, Maintenance, and/or the kitchens. Whatever the case, I hope that the resorts address it since it destroys the ambience that they work so hard in other ways to create.

(I understand that the guests who left their trash in the hallway should have taken care of it themselves, and wish that they had. Once public areas are affected, however, I believe that the resort staff should take care of problems.)

I would have complained to the front desk about the inconsiderate slobs down the hall. On second thought, maybe they didn't know that it was their duty to clean up after themselves.

we saw that a lot at AKV Kidani when we were there. I know we had no clue where to take our trash so we just made sure we didn't make much so we could last until our trash and towel day.

We were at Kidani two weeks ago, and saw some room service but no trash in the hallways. We had a hard time finding the trash room. We asked a maintenance person as we were walking with our bag down the hallway. He said to just put it on top of the trash can by the elevator. I couldn't bring myself to do that, so I brought it with us as we were going down the the garage, and found a bigger trash can that it would fit into.
It seems like if mousekeeping is in the halls during a good part of the day, that they would see the trash and pick it up. (Either that, or rude people wouldn't leave it sitting out in the hallway for everyone else to walk by).
We finally found the trash room and realized it wasn't too far from our room. Too bad we found it on the last day.

What are you supposed to do with room service trays?

I have seen housekeeping leave trash bags in the hall when they are cleaning the room. It's someone else's job to pick them up.

Leave them in your villa? If you order room service again, they can take the tray with them after they deliver your food.

We were at BLT two weeks ago and had the same issues. Mousekeeping just kept walking by tray after tray of dirty room service dishes in the hallway. On our last night the inconsiderate jerks next to us evidently had Chinese take out for diner. They put their smelly take out left overs and trash in the hallway. Our entire entry way and dining area smelled of day old Chinese. I could not believe how rude people are when it comes to cleaning up. I personally think every DVC member that leaves trash in the hallway should be fined in some way. If we had not been not leaving early the next day I would have had to complain to the manager.:headache:

Any hotel I've had room service in, they instruct you to leave the dishes in the hall when you are done. I don't think they want them sitting in the villa, they need to get them washed and used again.

My rule of thumb, anytime I've ordered room service in a hotel (granted its usually at night on business trips...)

1. When I am done, I call Room Service and ask them if i should put the tray out in the hall NOW
2. If they say yes, and I noticed it was there a few hours later (or the next morning) I would call back and tell them that

I think I would especially stick to this rule at DVC (to be considerate of my fellow DVCers)

This has been a pet peeve of mine for years........I do agree with above poster about room service trays/dishes. Call the room service number when you're done and tell them you're leaving the trays/dishes outside your door. If they're still there in a few hours......call again. In so far as leftover Chinese takeout trash.......I would call the front desk or housekeeping and tell them someone left smelly trash outside their door.......making it clear it isn't room service stuff. Unfortunately to knock on their door would probably bring about a confrontation. There is signage at every DVC.......usually fully visible when you get off the elevators.....with an arrow which way the trash room is.......it's one of the first things I look for when we check-in since we take our trash out every morning on our way out. I just can't tolerate coming home to smelly kitchen trash.....not to mention the possibility of attracting bugs......Ugh!!!
Maybe this is something that needs to be addressed upon check-in.........some sort of flier attached with your check-in packet ...........maybe stating that there is a trash room on every floor or in the case of SSR on the ground floor of each building.

We were at SSR early last year and Mousekeeping left a big bag filled with dirty laundry in the hall outside our door when we checked in. We called daily and it wasn't picked up until our trash & towel day. Guess they were busy. :confused3

And people mocked SSR for having outdoor hallways. That's one benefit: lots of fresh air to descentify the nasty trash leftovers.

I rarely see trash left outside a room too long at SSR. The longest is on T&T day when the laundry baskets sit and wait, but they tend to disappear by nightfall.

We just left Kidani and also saw trash in the hallways. Honestly, it didn't bother me, but we did think it was kinda odd to see. We actually had trash and thought we had to walk it to the trash room and that is exactly what we did. The thought never even crossed my mind to leave it in the hallway.

Not to hijack this thread but I have a question for our upcoming stay.

We usually accumulate a good bit of trash throughout a day, especially w/ both the boys being in diapers. Are there trash chutes or what can I do to throw the trash out myself at BLT. Thanks for any help!

When we were at SSR there was trash bags in the hallways everywhere.:confused3 I took my trash out to the trash can right out side by the pool. It was during August when it was really hot and it smelled. I think they need to work on this.

Ok so where is the trash room at AKV kidani? We found what we thought was it and DH made the trek down there but it was locked. So is there another one or do we leave it outside of that? I think they need to have something to say what you do.

I'm confused as to why people have a hard time finding the trash rooms. We've stayed at SSR & AKV Kidani and in all of our trips, we've called Mousekeeping, asked where the closest trash room was and walked the trash there ourselves.

As for trays in the hallway, we noticed that at Jambo, but not at Kidani and we never saw either trash or trays in the halls at SSR.

@ Kidani there is a trash room on the 2nd floor right around the corner from the elevators closest to the lobby and I know there has to be more than just this one.

There is a trash and recycling room, I'm assuming on each floor, but we were on the 6th floor and it was in the south end of the building on the inner side of the C.

ETA: They really should put this information in writing in each of the rooms. We had to call and ask where the ice machine was, and we sent the kids on a mission to find the trash room. There also was no channel guide for the TV. Just little things that would be nice!

We were also on the 2nd floor, but at the end closest to Jambo House (South end). The trash room wasn't too far from our room. We would just take it out with us when we left in the mornings. We had to walk a bit past the elevators to get to it, but not too far past. I'm sure with hallways that long, there are at least 2, if not more, trash rooms per wing, per floor. Again, we just call Mousekeeping when we arrive and ask where it is located. They have directed us to it every single time.
