I've never been to Food and Wine before and get to go at the beginning of October but I only get ONE day. I'm looking for any tips, tricks, food/drink must-dos that you might have. If you only had one day, what would you do?!

Okay, you need a plan to maximize your F&W efforts. What I do is look at the menus beforehand and classify each item as Must Try, Maybe Try, or Not Interested. I keep them ordered by where the kiosk is located. Check an F&W map for that information. So, once I have my list, I print out a little card with the items I am interested in. If you have a budget for it, you can add prices and do all of your musts, then the maybes as cost allows. I tend to leave room to repeat a few musts as there are usually some that I will want to.

Anyway, it takes a little effort, but it is worth it. The first time I went to F&W (didn't even know about F&W) I was so overwhelmed. We started eating our way around World Showcase, but were full not even half-way around!

+1 on research and plan. Also, get a tasting sampler card or two (or four :)). This make budgeting easy, and could even save a little bit of time at checkout since you aren't having to scan a credit card or magic band. You just hand the cashier a tab from the card.

Unless the OP wants a lot of the pricier alcoholic drinks the Tasting Sampler is not a good value at all. The average price per item purchased with the sampler needs to be $8.13 in order for one to break even on the $65 purchase price. If one values the souvenir pin at $10 you could then say the average cost per item only needs to be $6.87 but there are precious few items outside of the alcoholic drinks that come anywhere near that $6.87. I know we don't have this years booth prices yet but even using last years prices this still holds true. Drink flights, Wine and/or food Samplers, Champagnes & a few Pricier wines have been excluded from being purchased with the Tasting Sampler entitlements in the past. The OP needs to check out the menus & research to make the most out of their 1 day at the festival.
