online universal reservations

The opportunity to check the options are prior to payment so if you need something more specific you can call prior to entering your payment information. They also have a page on their website - ADA Information for Guests of Universal Orlando.
They are ADA compliant!

OK, I couldn't find anything in a search so here goes.

WE are looking at doing a long weekend either next month or December. Trying to see what Universal had but you can't look at what type of handicapped rooms they have. This is a clear violation of the ADA since 2010 but they don't seem to care. I tried talking with someone online at their website but they want you to call and then it's just a request not a confirmed room.

Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge of this? We would like to go there and see what's new there because we haven't been there in 25 years.

TIA

starting to see why we go to WDW instead for all these years.

Hi, pugdog. If you decide to go could you write a review and maybe take some photos of your accessible room and maybe even some of the park's accessible queues and attraction rides.

I haven't been there in decades either, but I really would like to visit in December.

Actually Disney, the National Parks hotels, and most major hotel brands do it fine. I require a roll-in shower room and book almost all of my reservations online. They have a box to check that says you want to search for accessible rooms. They then list the types of rooms available. Once you book your room they take that room out of the available rooms.

If you want to see how it should work go to the WDW resort reservations webpage and try it.

I was thinking about staying at a Universal hotel next year but after seeing how they handle reservations and that they don't guarantee the room I won't be staying with them.

Hi, Bill. Me, too!

I think it would be much better to do the search for ADA rooms before you reach the check out phase. I know I wouldn't add a room to my cart unless it was a roll-in shower room.

I don’t disagree about a preference for it being upfront, but now we’re talking preference v. compliance. At the beginning of this thread, it appeared they weren’t compliant, with which is a big problem.

As for adding something to my cart without details, I wouldn’t have an issue with that so long as I know I don’t have to make payment until everything is clear to me .

I agree with you regarding compliance - it does appear they are compliant, it's just clumsy and poorly-implemented (compared to what most hotels present online).

But, I would never have gone far enough in the process to *find* the ADA check box in their procedure - not being able to search for those rooms directly, or having a sort method that shows me those options means I would never have known how to book those rooms if @jeal had not come along and told us.

@DisneyOma just a small FYI - as far as I know, there is one bed height for ADA rooms, and that height is consistent at all Disney Resort Hotel HARIS (Handicapped Accessible Roll In Shower) rooms. There are no Roll-in showers with higher or "standard" height beds; all of those rooms are designed for wheelchair users, and so all accommodations within the room will be at the ADA prescribed height.

Agreed. I didn't even think to go that far when I texted it a couple of days ago.

I think differently. My first stay at OKW, I had a studio with lower beds and a roll-in shower (after first being assigned a standard room where I had to lean across the mattress and haul myself into the bed).

My next stay, I had a roll-in shower but standard-height beds. Maintenance, at my request, removed one of the bedframes. That left the mattress and box spring at an accessible height.

I have never experienced that at a WDW Resort Hotel - however I have not stayed at that many of the Resorts since requiring a HARIS room, either...

I *have* experienced it at other hotels; most recently an IHG property in Memphis and a Marriott property in Missouri. That bed in Missouri was so high that I never would have been able to get up on it - my best estimate is that the top of the mattress was at or near 30" from the floor. But the room had a beautiful roll in shower! No bench... and the doorway to the shower was probably just barely at the required 30" opening, but yeah... LOL, luckily, we were able to work with the front desk, maintenance & housekeeping to remedy all of the problems while we took a leisurely dinner at a favorite restaurant, and by the time we came back, housekeeping was just finishing making the (now lower) bed.

I'm actually glad to know that it *can* happen at WDW - at least that way, I won't be surprised, and thanks to your post, I know what to do to remedy the situation. 🙂
