I have my resort linked to MDE and looking to purchase tickets and link them as well. When I add them to my cart they say the tickets will be mailed out to me by May 12th. Will I be able to purchase tickets today and get the ticket numbers today so I can link them and schedule fastpasses?

They should automatically link to your account.

I got an email receipt with the ticket number to add it to my MDE; however, it was automagically added so I didn't need to add it.

I just did this today. My tickets didn't immediately show up in MDE. Five minutes later, my ticket appeared. Five minutes after that, my son's appeared. I confirmed that we could schedule FP+ after they appeared.
