when i tried to register online for DL Half and WDW 2007 Marathon, 4.75 was added to 85 fee and 5 added to 100 dollar fee and labeled a processing fee.

That fee is not listed on the mail in forms. Is this new this year or did i not notice last year?

I registered for both Jan2005 and Jan2006 online and both years had a processing fee. Same again for Jan2007 (4.75 fee I think) and Sept206 was I think 4.25.

I prefer online registration because I'm laaaaazeeeeee! :teeth: I know when we've signed up online for local 5Ks there have been processing fees too.

It is on every year. It is the fee for the service that makes it possible to register on-line.

You can snail mail if you don't wish to pay it, but on-line registration means no worries about lost mail and instant confirmation that you indeed are entered.

I have seen this fee before in other races as well--so no worries on Disney trying to pad the profits. It is fees for costs and profits for another entity where all they do is on-line race registrations.

Since i was trying to sign up for 4 events, (1 for my Mom) it really adds up.
Didn't even notice it last year.

Thanks for the replies.

For the 2007 1/2 marathon I signed up on-line. For the 2008 marathon, I am just going to mail in my entry and save the on-line fee. The only thing you can't seem to do by mailing in the form is order the 15th anniversary pin.

Does anyone know if it is possible to order the pin using snail mail? Maybe Disney just neglected to add it to the form.

Thanks.

Mark.

I attempted to register online yesterday. When I got to the screen with the pricing, my service charge for Goofy and 5 pins was $18.75. That'd be almost $40 in addition to the $450 it'll cost us for Goofy. I've decided to use snailmail to register both me and DH. And yes, advance pin orders don't seem to be available by mail.

I'm waiting for an email response from disneysports.com about pin availability.

When I registered DD and me for Minnie online, I wasn't charged a fee, but I active.com wasn't the vendor.

It's an artifact of the online registration and seems to be particularly bad w/ active.com. I paid a $15 fee for my $200 FL 70.3 entry but registered for IM Moo, IM LP, and Goofy 2007/2008 directly through the race organizations and avoided my not so little active 'donation.'

Last time I paid the active fee for an IM race, it added $25 to the entry fee when you're already dropping over $400. 2007 races were $450 but I'm doing Moo collegiate and LP through a charity slot so I registered directly with North American Sports/Ironman North America and you guys thought Disney races were expensive... As a triathlete primarily who runs some too, I drop 4 figures a year on race entry fees. Oh dear, it's better when I don't think of it that way.

I agree the Active fees do get pretty high.

I normally will mail a check to avoid the fees because I register for two, but when the race might fill up I will go ahead and bite the bullet and register on line. It's worth getting the instant confirmation.

I mailed it last year for Race for the Taste and it took several emails to get a confirmation. I don't want that hassle when it comes to the Goofy.

I agree about biting the bullet and paying the online fee when you might otherwise miss out on getting into the race. If I was not registering multiple family members for next year's race, I might have paid the fee, but it bothers me to have to pay it multiple times.

I pay most of my bills online and not one company charges me a fee. It is a cost savings for those companies so I don't see why Disney does not see it that way. I would not want to have to open 25,000 envelopes and enter everyones registration information by hand.

If it is through Active--it isn't Disney--it is the site. They add that fee for EVERY event that is registered through their system. Kind of like Ticketmaster.:headache: It is a matter of convenience and I can't think of a race that doens't use Active for their registration b/c Active means they don't waste capital or manpower trying to create a registration system.

I even had to pay it when I did on-line registration for our dinky lil' local marathon (Space coast Marathon).

As far as billpay--the companies do not charge you--but sometimes, depending on who you bank with or the billpay service you utilize, they are the ones that decide to fee you or not. We do not have a fee for billpay. Our bank just provides that as a courtesy. But they are USAA and they do a lot of things as a courtesy b/c their members are worldwide and they don't have any bricks and mortar locations.

I do not know how Active determines the processing fee for any event--it looks like they are different depending on type and/or cost of the event. I look at it as a necessary evil for expediency/convenience...much like that dreaded Ticketmaster charge.:headache:

You can indeed get it even though you registered by snail mail. I did it! I had actually posted another thread about it. This is how it works:
- You go online and go through the entire registration process, filling out all the required info.
- When it pops up with the page before you submit your registration, go ahead and delete the race fee.

There you go, it's pretty easy though it's kind of a pain to fill out everything, but it definitely works. Let me know if you have any other questions!
