Online Points Activity - allocation error

I've been using the online points activity statement for the first time, and I notice what looks like an error. The yearly allocations for my accounts are dated a year too early.

For instance, my June 2004-May 2005 points show that they were allocated on 6/1/2003. Similarly, my 2005-2006 points were allocated on 6/1/2004, and the 2006-2007 use year, which hasn't started yet, was allocated on 6/1/2005.

At least the accruals are consistently a year early. I'd really be worried if it wasn't consistent!

Has anyone else noticed this?

I see it, too. The summary totals at the bottom of the first "My DVC" page is correct, but the point detail charts are weird.

Maybe DVC has to do that to make the points "available" to be borrowed. I don't know...just a guess.

I agree with Beca. If they didn't show the points being allocated a year in advance, then every time you borrowed points from your next Use Year, that Use Year's activity log would show a negative point balance that would not get adjusted until the first day of that Use Year.

The interesting thing is, you can make reservations 11 months in advance and you can borrow points from the following Use Year for that reservation. So in theory, you could be borrowing points as early as 23 months in advance of the first day of the Use Year of those points. So in some cases, showing the points being allocated 12 months in advance isn't really far enough in advance. So I wonder what happens in that case? Would your activity log show a negative point balance, or would the fact that you borrowed points cause an earlier allocation of your points to be logged?

Haven't looked at my on-line points activity statement to confirm what you noticed.

BUT...

the last few time I checked the recent activity it had me staying in a std. vw studio at BWV instead of the std.vw. one-bedroom I did stay in back in October 2005. Now the points listed as used were correct for a one bedroom instead of the studio they had me down for.

Decided it wasn't worth it to call up and inquire about since the trip is over and my points balance is correct.

What it looks like to me is that they show the date of the first activity for any given use year that involves that use year. Thus if you bank or borrow, they will show an earlier date up to a full year out. It looks like the first day of the preceding use year is the earliest they list. Plus they've just added the 2006 & 2007 use years to the list so they may still be working the bugs out.
