Read the material. Pay the fee. Print the card/certificate. No hands on needed.

I am not kidding. This is not a joke. Google it. I was totally floored.

Any thoughts on this? I didn't think this was possible.

well,

YIKES!

Please God may I not have a heart attack in front of a Homeschooled CPR practitioner.

As someone who is certified in CPR and AED, I find that appalling. You definitely need hands on.

I just read this to DH, who is a certified CPR instructor.

His comment, "If you do not learn this material hands on and practice before you actually see a patient, you are not going to be able to properly perform CPR."

He also pointed out that many of the written materials flaoting around are out of date or contain typos or other incorrect, contradictory, or confusing information.

I suppose if you just felt like learning CPR, you'd want to go to a hands-on place. But people who do it all the time don't need a class to teach them how...they just need to re-up with their certificate.

I've never done it online as they bring people in to re-up us, but I think it is FINE for people to re-up online.

I agree. I have taken CPR every one to two years for the last 20 plus years. I think this would be ok.

I agree that re-ups are different than a novice learning for the first time. My certification expired years ago, and I wouldn't be comfortable relearning online--I'd want the hands on. DH plans on re-certifying me over Christmas, but I truly feel like I need to start from scratch, it's been 15 years since my certification ran out. :guilty:

It hasn't changed much! There is more pumping now, though, and less breathing.

And I understand that they are now really driving home the point that people shouldn't worry about hurting the person. I guess a lot of folks are a little timid about pusing down so far - they weren't learning to really push down hard and fast. If you break the guys ribs...he has a broken rib. Big whup. Big, fat, hairy deal. Better to be alive with a broken rib than dead with nice, intact ones!

Other than that, it's the same deal. You pump their heart for them.

Most of the time, CPR doesn't help anyway. But sometimes it does, so it's always worth a try.

And it is THE best workout for your abdominal muscles!!!! No kidding. Nothing better. You straddle a guy and work him for 25 minutes, you'll feel it the next day. You'll wake up thinking, "What the hell happened to my abdomen????" :)

Just finished my online CPR, First Aid and AED course however I had to have a "test" with a certified instructor. It was nice to be able to move quickly through all the class part. I've had CPR before so this was more of a refresher for me. Ours was American Heart and we had to be tested to get the certificate.

how is that even legal?? when i took my CPR course you actually had to be in the presence of someone certified and demonstrate infront of them. i hope i never pass out around someone who got certified on the net!

i'll add this to my mental list of strange trainings/certifications available through correspondance courses.

until i read about this the worst one i'de seen (and it was constantly advertised in t.v. commercials where we used to live) were vetrinary assistant :scared1: um, yeah i realy trust someone to be providing medical care to my pet when they've never worked with actual animals (unless they somehow send them animals through the mail that the 'student' then sends back for a grade:confused3   ).

I have no idea if this is true for vet's assistant courses, but I am training to become a teacher. My university is 200 miles away. They arrange for me to have field experience at my local elementary school. It may be the same thing for online vet's assistant courses.

I second that!
