Online Checkin?

Is there any sense in doing this for the sites? I think I had read somewhere that they don't have a designated area for online check in so most of you didn't bother with it.

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I couldn't find it. I have been having a hard time focusing on things since we lost our sweet camping dog after a brief illness. I miss her so much. :sad1: She has been gone 6 weeks today. It is still so hard to believe she is gone. I know that so many of you know exactly how we feel. They are our kids.

When we were checking in at 1PM on a Saturday, with around 40 other campers, you could tell who had done the online checkin and who hadn't.

Believe me, you were thankful that there were people who had taken the time to do online checkin.

Online checkin people (like me): roll up to the booth, give their name and ID, get their packet, roll out.

Other people: 10 minutes of going back and forth. Signing things, handing over one credit card, then calling back the person and giving them another credit card, giving different ids, getting out of the camper (even though it says don't get out of the camper), etc, etc.

ANNOYING!

Thanks for the first hand experience. I will plan on doing that as soon as I am allowed.

When you go towards the check in area, and it is crowded, usually to the far left you will see a sign in the lane that says 'Online check in', it has something about key pick up (for the cabins), but there are RV's in that line, that are moving through 4X faster that the other lines. I asked a CM later about it and I was told that RV's that went through online check in could use those lanes also. I don't know if that was true or not (you know how some CM's are).

Anyway, if you do the online check in, they merely check you in & hand you your premade packet. A whole lot faster.

We just got back from the fort. This was the first time we did online check in because the last time it kept telling me I wasn't 18 yet! (I wish...). The line for online checkin was to the far left but some yahoo got in it with at least a million questions (can't they read the signs...) so we sat and waited until the RV in front of us pulled up enough so we could get around them and headed to another lane. When we got there the only question they didn't ask us is how we were going to pay since I had specified that on the online checkin page.

SO.....I still don't think Disney has it right YET! It's too slow. I expect that line to be moving at a good clip. No more than 1 minute per transaction just like if you are a hotel member and walk up to the counter. If you've done this before you should know what to do and not be asking questions that take time to answer, if you need to do that, GET IN THE OTHER LINE!

Same thing for inside check in. They still make you wait in the line with everyone else. So not much time savings there either.

Thanks guys. Glad I checked into it. I am going to go ahead and do it and see how things go. I think this year we will try one of the lanes if they aren't too backed up. In the past I have gone in while my husband unloads the golf cart.

We requested 700, pet, satellite line of sight.

Did online checkin and got 800, right next to the bus stop, in the trees (neither of our mounted dishes can see anything). And 700 wouldn't have been any better - would have needed 600 for that, but he wanted to be in the shade for the 5 weeks we're here.

It was so busy on our checkin day DH didn't want to bother to try to maneuver around or try for the slight possibility that he might find a better site.

In all, we're glad we are where we are - right next to the bus stop, right next to the comfort station, and right across from the Meadow area.

If we'd thought about it more we probably would have requested the 800 loop anyway.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel though because I'm grieving as well. My dear sweet Boxer passed away last week, and I am heart broken.:sad1: This is especially difficult because he was only two years old. We still aren't exactly sure about what happened, but we have our suspicions. He was extremely healthy with top-notch vet care, so we're pretty certain that someone in the neighborhood did something to him. My family and I are still in shock and disbelief. I miss him so very much. He would've loved the Fort!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. How awful that someone could do such a thing. People who are cruel to animals don't deserve to live!

Our yellow lab was almost 10. She got sick all of a sudden, we didn't know what was wrong. She went to the vet and they did some tests. Put her on some meds including prednisone. She got better really quick. Had a really good week then had a seizure followed by another one two days later more violent then the first. Ended up being a brain tumor. Nothing could be done and we couldn't let her suffer. It was so hard to make that choice but we knew we had to do it for her.

Miss her so very much. We love all of our animals but she was extra special and close to us. :sad1:

I did the online check in back in May, and had requested a specific site in 100. Upon checking in, they had given me a site in 100, but not the one I requested. They checked & the site I requested was open & they changed my site & it only took an extra 2 minutes.

But in October (on line check in) I requested the same, got into the 100 loop, but the site I wanted was not open and there were no other available sites in 100.

I guess what I am saying is it is hit & miss. As they tell you, they do not guarantee anything, but will put your request in.

Also, fax & call them a few days prior with your preference (in addition to your comments on the ressies).

I totally agree! There are truly some disgusting individuals out there. Again, I know what you mean. Our fur baby was almost like one of our kids. It's been very tough.

On a lighter note, thanks for posting this question. I've actually been meaning to ask the same thing on here, but just haven't had the time. Your post not only helped me decide to go ahead with online check-in, but it's also managed to bring me some comfort knowing that I'm not the only one grieving over a loss right now. Thanks so much, and you'll be in my prayers.

I am glad it helped. You are definetely not alone. You will be in my prayers as well. Take care!

I did the online checkin. There isn't a place to make the loop request there so I will just fax it in. I have it noted on my ressie as well.

I use the online checkin. I don't know if it helps but it certainly doesn't hurt.
I don't request a certain loop. I do have my favorites out the campsites we have already stayed in, but I don't which would be my favorites out the ones that we have not stayed in yet.
Life is an adventure!

Will I get an email about online check in or is this something that I'll have to initiate. Leaving on Wednesday!
