Online Check In

One other question I thought of....

If we do online check in and then get a room assigned and go straight to our room, how do we deal with charges? If we add a card to MDE, is that card automatically used for things when onsite? (Or maybe we specify with each purchase as I remember entering a credit card when booking ADRs?)

Technically, Whatever card you add to MDE will be for room/magic band charges however you can go down to pay for outstanding charges with guest services with a different card or a gift card. It used to be they would charge your card every 5th day for outstanding balances. I never charge things to my room anymore so someone with more recent experience can chime in.

For mobile order or mobile checkout you can either use the card in MDE or put in a new card every time.

Thanks for explaining. So basically MDE card will be the default but we can pay off with another as well.

The card you have on file is not charged until after checkout. You can still shop anywhere on property with your band and even park at the hotel you stayed at. Your magic band opens the gate until midnight the day of checkout. Mobile ordering auto bills to the card on file.

I have found that sometimes on split stays you won’t receive a text even when you’ve checked in online. That happened to us last year and I’m anticipating it might again on our trip next month. It’s not a big deal having to check in at the front desk, but just something I’ve noticed. We arrive early on this trip anyway, so doubtful the room would have been ready in any case.

I submitted the online check in last week (arrival day is later this week), but just decided to try the Touring Plans room request. Today was the last day possible to use the TP request system for our arrival date. Not sure if it will be at all helpful this late in the game, really wish I had thought to do it earlier. We've never used it before. Should I withdraw my online check-in and give TP a couple of days and then resubmit? I am so picky with room location and have had really good luck with Disney all these years, I don't want to jinx it. :worried:

I'm going to avoid letting disney plan my day... For several reasons. Stay with what you've done. Just put in your arrival time and that is what works best if you want a room sooner than later. I saw you were picky on location... Call dvc a couple days before and ask them to put in your room requests. It's undeniable a trip to the desk and their call may get you a better location but you might wait longer to get in. I use studio accomodations so experience with 1 and 2 bedroom villas very likely will be different and may even vary by resort. Last month and in February i stayed at bay lake and had a lake view south tower.... going back in about ten days. Polynesian. Yay!

Doesn't that only work if you're staying DVC? I've read and reread the post you quote and don't see that they're staying DVC...

In terms of "a couple of days before" - the rooms are generally assigned 5-7 days in advance, so a couple of days is too late.

I am so picky with room location

I'm glad that you've been lucky so far, but the day will come when they are not able to meet super picky requests. They aren't going to move someone from a room just because it meets your requirements. Just please be polite when the day comes that they can't meet it.

I've worked customer facing jobs for over 30 years, I'm always super polite and I think that also has helped with my success rate. Obviously I would never ask or expect anyone to be moved out of their room. I'm hopeful that they'll have a room coming available on the side of the building I prefer on our resort check in day. In my experience it never hurts to ask.

Ok, a side of a building is IMHO a lot different from "super picky about location". I read the super picky about location as almost a specific room - definitely like a floor, area of a floor, etc.

I‘d just leave things the way they are now, and if you end up somewhere you definitely know you don’t want to be, and they can’t move you on check in day, you can always ask if there is a possibility to switch to a different location the next day.

Good luck! :goodvibes

There are only so many rooms of any type available. Studios (my only experience) are only on certain floors and there are not that many. North / south tower, higher or lower . No studios below 4, or above 10th floor if memory doesn't fail me

Yes, I'm aware of that. And yes, you can ask. But again, if all of those are full, there is nothing they can do. They are not going to move someone just because you want that location. And yes, if you're willing to waste time in a day moving on another day of your vacation, you can ask if that would be possible.

I'm still trying to figure out where the poster wanting to put in a request said they were in a studio. I've reread that post forwards and backwards and don't see it.

You’ve mentioned this twice now, but nobody has suggested that. :confused3

It’s actually surprisingly easy to change rooms. Just leave your bags packed, They’ll move your bags for you while you go to the parks. or you can bring them down to baggage storage yourself if you’ve got valuables you want locked up. You don’t have to wait around for your room to be ready, so that’s nice.

Maybe not on here, but I've heard it at the front desk before. People demanding that someone else be moved so they can have the "only room worth staying in".

If it works for you, that's great. I prefer to settle in and not have to deal with moving - the same reason I'll never do a split stay.

You're correct...They didn't say what type of room they have and I don't remember if the resort was even mentioned. I pretty much only have experience with studios room types and wanted to be clear. I favor the monerail loop or home resort Wilderness. Sorry tmi.

Exactly.

Understandable if you don’t want to do it. I was just saying how it doesn’t have to waste your time.

OP here....sorry one last question as we leave tomorrow and thought of something else...

If we just go straight to our assigned room when we get there, then will we get the card that acts as a pass? If not, then we may be better to go to the front desk upon arrival.

Only reason I'd like one...is for a backup. Our magic bands are really old from 2014. I know they are supposed to work for scanning into rides and recognizing our LLs, ADRs, etc, but in case not I'd like another option aside from our phone. Plus, I won't be going on all the rides so it would be good if iI need to give this to my family to scan in if it's a LL one.
