Online Check In

I see that if you do online check in and get your room texted to you, you can go right to your room upon arrival. But what about the welcome packet that you get when you check in? If you go right to your room, when do you get this? Do you still have to stop by the front desk for it at some point?

Does advance online check-in have more of an advantage over in-person front desk check-in in increasing the chances you will get a room location/type request granted?

I have found that speaking to the person at the front desk increases the chances of getting what you want. That person-to-person interaction is kind of nice.

It has zero affect. All rooms are assigned 2-3days before arrival whether you do Online Check In or not.
