is there any downside to doing online check in prior to arrival? is it less likely you will get you request accommodated?

Any request you ask for may not be accommodated. Checking in online doesn't mean yes or no on anything.

If you ask for a room in building X and building X is completely full on your check in date, you will get Building Y. Others that check in online or at the front desk will have the same experience. A request is just that - a request.

We were very satisfied with our online check in last time. We got everything we requested. It just worked out for us. I guess it could have just as easily not worked out for us.

last online check in I did, the line was MUCH shorter than the normal check in, so that's a plus....

The only disadvantage that I can think of.... is there something you simply MUST discuss with the Desk Clerk? If so, I would do regular check in. We've done both :).

We did online check-in during our most recent trip to Coronado Springs two weeks ago. We got our room right away at 9am and we faxed in a room request, while we didn't get the exact room we wanted, we did get a room relatively close to that room and ended up very happy. But that was just our experience, may have been a lucky one.

We did online direct-to-room check-in for our arrival 2 weeks ago and got both of our requests (upper floor, close to transportation). This was the first time I did online check-in and it was the first time in our last 6 visits that I actually got my room requests. Usually I'm standing at the front desk changing our room location during check-in. I loved the direct-to-room feature. We had planned to arrive around 11:30 and I got the text at 10:10 that our room was ready. It was nice to be able to go park right by our building and unload the car rather than having to go to the main building first.

On eight trips/ten resorts we've always gotten what we requested via online check-in. Every time we've been lucky.

I've done one line check in the last dozen trips. Again only downside is if you need to ask front desk CM a question. What _I did was wait and came back when there was no line to ask. My question was not urgent.

Sorry stupid I'm from the UK - what is the link for online check in and can I do it being outside of the U.S. & having booked via a travel agent?

Thanks for any info!!

We also had concerns over room request made online. Our daughter and a friend recently stayed at the WL, and the online check-in process worked perfectly. She requested a ground floor room as close to the lobby as possible. She did get ground floor, though her room was located as far to the back of the resort as possible. She did, however get an upgrade in view, and it turned out that they loved the location because it was close to the boat launch to the MK. I believe that the resorts do there best to accommodate at least 1 room request. I'm now completely sold on the online process.

I'm coming from Canada & have to pick up our magic bands, is that done at the front desk check-in? I was planning on doing online check in but maybe that's not an option being an international guest? checking in at Pop Century if that makes a difference.

You can do online check in as international guests (I did it a few weeks ago as a Canadian traveler) Online check in is accessed through mde but only on an iPad or a computer I couldn't see it on my phone within 60 days of arrival. You can make room requests and let them know what time you'll be arriving but you will have to go to the front desk to get your room assignment and magic bands.

We've read that online check in works well, lets you go directly to your room if you have a magic band and get the email with your room number (thus saving a rip to the front desk).

However, you have to specifically certify that you have read (not just agree to, but certify you have read) all 47 pages of terms and conditions, that takes about 2 hours. We find 10 minutes in line checking in takes far less time than reading those terms. I'm sure many people certify they have done something when they have not, but we don't. Too bad, it could really be a nice way to check in earlier and go directly to the room.
