What is the benefit of using this? We have always just gone the the desk when we arrived.

Depending on when you arrive, it can save you time.
Your room will already be assigned to you. If you have a concern about where your room will be, or if you have questions about your reservation or tickets, dining..etc... it is better to wait to check in until you get there. Online check in is best for folks that just want to grab their room keys and be off and running. :)

eta: your room will be assigned but may not be ready - the rule of a 3:00 check in will still apply. That being said, anytime we have done online check in, our room was ready when we arrived.

If you do online check-in, once you arrive at your resort the check-in process moves faster as the resort will have your welcome folder and KTTW waiting for you at the online check-in counter compared to them having to print all of that while you're waiting at the traditional check-in counter. Another plus is that the chance of your room being ready increases greatly as the resort will know your ETA ahead of time.

On-line check-in can save time, especially if you are arriving at a peak check-in time. They will try and have your room ready and will have all of your other paperwork and KTTW ready. It usually won't save any time if you the room assigned isn't to your liking and you want to changeit you will have to wait for the CM to make the changes. If you are not that worried about where your room is on-line check-in can save you time. Have a great trip.
