Online check-in vs. waiting to arrive

I know that requests are not guaranteed, but I was wondering if you would have a better chance getting your request if you waited to checkin once you arrived as opposed to doing online checkin.

Thanks for any help!! :)

someone else might help more but rooms are pre-assigned so I would make sure my room request was noted with MS and do online check in. I'm fairly certain the original problem with that has been taken care of. If you wait until physically checking in there may be nothing they can do to switch your room.

I stayed at AKV Jambo House recently in a Value Studio. I sent a request by mail for a room close to the lobby.

I then did Online Check-In. We arrived around 8:30 in the evening and everything was ready. The room we got matched my request and we even got a savannah view, which was a plus and a nice surprise as well.

I've never actually found that online check in saves that much time, in fact since the site is so slow it may actually cost you more time. You have to check the location of the room at check in regardless of how you start the process. Just make sure your special requests are noted on your reservations. You can change the room as long as you do it before you actually go to the room. If you go to the room and then change they can charge you a "re-cleaning" fee.

I am unable to get the online check-in to work this morning -- anyone else? I wondered if it is just a glitch for DVC members.

We found it saved LOTS of time last year. I didn't have to wait for all the room keys to be printed. For some reason it always loses all the name/age information of my family and I have to stand there while they ask me all the information that should be in the system when I wait. It usually takes us 15-30 minutes to check-in if we wait. Last year, our packet of information, keys and everything was ready and waiting for us. Saved me lots of hassle and entertaining young children!!!

Make your request with MS and have it added to your reservation. Disney is working towards not allowing room changes at check in. At BLT we were told that it is a new policy.

Thanks for all the feedback. I already have my request in, but I am going to call and double check that.

Just one more question..... How far in advance you can do online checkin??

10 days.

Did the online check in today for our upcoming trip and confirmed the list of people, ages, and QSDP is added. It gave me the option to add a CC now and I chose not to since I never want charging privileges to our KTTW Cards. I plan on paying for our dining plan when we get there. Really, I don't mind paying for it now but I'm worried they'll add charging to our cards. Anyone with previous experiences?

I wasn't sure if you could do online check in without giving the cc info, thanks. We're going for 2 days and 1 night and we'd prefer to just pay cash. Don't they still need the cc on file when you arrive in case of damage to the room, etc.?

No, it's not required. We never leave a credit card on our account when we check in.

When you check in online, does it give you your room assignment or is that info given to you when you physically get to the front desk?

The room assignments usually are done the night before you arrive. That's the whole point of Online Check-In. The night crew, who usually aren't that busy can prepare the Check-In Packages incl. Room Keys.

So you will only know your room location once you are at the check-in desk.

I did online check in for a May arrival at BLT and I loved it! There were 5 of us, so not having to wait for the cards was nice, and frankly, I tend to get brand new cast members at check in, so I have had to spend hours (over the years) in line while they learn their jobs! I did make one request and it was met, so I was happy and in my room in minutes. The room was ready, but I wasn't terribly early maybe 2:45 or so.

You will be given your room assignment at the check in desk if your room is ready. Rooms aren't supposed to be ready until after 4:00. If it's ready when you check in, you will get it then. If not, they will notify you when it is.

We have already purchased our 6 day park hoppers and I want them added to our KTTW cards when we arrive. Is it better to just check-in upon arrival for this reason instead of online?

You can take your KTTW card to the concierge desk and have your park hoppers added when you arrive. You'll have to decide if that will take longer to stand in the check in line, or if the concierge line is seperate. At most DVC resorts, the concierge can also do check ins, so if the line is long when you arrive, it will be the same as standing in line to check in. When the line is just normal, the concierge desk is left just for things like that, and it will be fast to have them add your tickets to your KTTW.

Just wanted to report that we used online checkin for our stay starting June 8 and our 2BR was available upon checkin at 10am at SSR. There was a line for regular checkin and when I got there and I told them I checked in online, I was sent to the first available CM. I did not see a separate line for online check in, more like a fast pass to the line lol. Our requests were granted, so I'll do it again next time.:goodvibes
