Online check-in question

When my family booked our trip, we booked it as a grand gathering, and they said that our reservations were linked together. They also said that they would try and put us near each other at the hotel (pop century).

I am able to do online check in this week, and I was wondering... If I check in online, will they still be able to get us near each other at the hotel? My parents are not computer people. Would there be a spot for me to write down their reservation numbers so they know to put us near each other, or anything like that??

No, but if your reservations are linked, you'll probably be OK. Can you make an account for your parents and do their online check-in for them? It would probably be easier to have you do the same thing.

My sister and I did a trip together last fall with our reservations linked and both did online check-in and we were given connecting rooms at Pop.

Doing online check-in won't affect your room assignment or any requests on your reservation. It's just a way to get paperwork prepared ahead of time.

In a situation like yours, where you have a very important request and would likely be requesting a room change if your request wasn't met, there's just not much point to doing online check-in. Especially since you'd have to go to the trouble of creating an online account for your parents just to check them in. There's just not enough benefit to online check-in to justify all that extra work.

If it were me, I'd skip the online check in and have all of you check in together when you arrive at the resort.

I did a Grand Gathering at Pop Century a few months ago. We have four rooms with a very special request (first floor handicapped accessible for my wheelchair bound father). Disney went above and beyond with everything with the Grand Gathering, even calling me to tell me with the request, that room would need to be moved from pool view to standard. I called back to ask all rooms be moved but only two could (we have different lengths of stay). When I checked in (I didn't do the online thing), I found out all four rooms had been moved to first floor standard view and all four were in a row. I was amazed even after 60 trips that Disney could do all that.

And when I checked in, the rooms were all preassigned and I could have done the online check in and I really wish I had. If you have a Grand Gathering confirmation number, have yourself designated as the facilitator and you can do anything you want with all the reservations.
