Online check in..good idea?

We are within 10 days of our trip so I can do online check in if I want. We are staying at SSR and I requested Congress Park DTD view. Do you think it's better to do online check in and hope for the best....or wait and check in when we arrive and talk to the CM about it? The new computer system is assigning rooms now right? opinions please!!!
 
It does not make any difference in relation to getting requests. Any requests need to be made through MS and when you check in online, no requests will be noted but they will still be there and will be considered in assignments. We have done on-line check-in and both got and not got our requests, they same experience we have had without on-line check-in.
 
I just checked in online for the first time today. We'll have to see what happens.
 
We used online check in for the first time for our last trip 11/28 - 12/5 and our requests was what we got (OKW bldg 45 or 46) sorry Diane. Since the new system went online shortly after we arrived I'm not sure how it has affected requests.
 

I did online check in for our split stay during our 1st dvc stay this past Sept. I put all my requests in when I spoke to MS when making our reservations. When we got there they had all our info in a folder and all our requests had been honored so we were very happy(if they weren't we would had been fine with that also).

When you check in online you cannot make any requests via the online check in form. If you want a specific location you will have to call MS, but they are only requests so you may not get them anyway. If you already put requests in online check in will not erase those requests, but you will not see them on your screen when you complete the check in. I think now that a computer system might be assigning the rooms smaller, precise requests, might have a better chance at being honored since the computer system might be able to process them easier lol. I don't really know... lol

My opinion is to do the online check in and see what happens. No matter what you'll have to talk to a CM to get your keys anyway lol. I wish you luck and have a ton of fun!!! :)
 
We did online check in at SSR in 2009 and got exactly what we requested! My only concern this time is that the computer now assigns rooms without considering requests. I guess since we get there so early in the morning I'll just go ahead with the online check in and see what we get. If it gives us the Paddock or something hopefully the CM can help us switch it. Wish us pixie dust for DTD view! It's our first trip with just the two of us since our honeymoon!! Can't wait to see those who will be at the Dis-meet on Tuesday the 25th!:goodvibes
 
I guess we won't be doing online check in...at least for right now. IT WON'T WORK! ugh!
 
We used it last visit. I didn't see any benefit or drawback to it. Our room hadn't been assigned, or if it was, the CM disregarded it trying to accomodate our request as he gave me two rooms to choose from.

I think the advantage is supposed to be quicker check-in as everything is supposed to be ready when you arrive. If you're someone who cares about room request and getting a specific location it won't save you much.

The line wasn't any faster as there was only one CM handling online check-in versus 2-3 the normal registration line. Took about the same amount of time.

I'm indifferent.
 
We used online check-in for our November 20, 2010 stay. First of all, the system did not work on the numerous times I tried to check-in at the 10-day out mark. I had to call MS and was told that there was a bug in the system as they were converting reservation to the new system, and that I had to re-enter information that was automatically filled by the system. Then I was checked in!

When we arrived at BCV, the front desk had nothing prepared for our stay and we did not get anything close to our requests, even though we had booked at the 11-month window and put our requests in, plus we had done the online check-in.

So, it did not work for us, did not save us any time, and was frustrating to use. We will try again this year, and hope that the kinks are worked out for our stay.

On the plus side, we had the best stay EVER despite the bumpy checkin, so hey, I am a happy Disney nut :banana:!
