Online check-in charging priviliges

Since you are required to give a credit card number to proceed with the online check-in, we don't do it because all guests above a certain age (10?) will be able to charge. Many times we have friends and relatives stay with us and obviously don't want them to charge on our card.--It defeated the purpose when we had to have new cards cut because all had charging. Well, I sent an email to member services mentioning that selecting the guests for charging would be helpful for online check-in. I got a nice call back(left on my machine) saying that it will be passed along and they are working on the site. I'd like to think that maybe someone will actually really consider changing the check-in page. I can only hope.

I checked in online the other day and just skipped that part of entering my CC# and it let me continue on. I was really shocked because when I did the online check in Oct it wouldn't until I put a number in.

So either they fixed their site or I just had a glitch in the system :confused3

Another case of where a SA in IT designed a system without learning and consulting the business problem first. {sigh}

We're going with friends in June and this is the first time I won't be able to do online check-in for this very reason. They're great friends but this is their "once in a lifetime" trip and I see them spending out the yeng-yang and we just don't live like that down there. I don't need them putting $5k on my CC and then trying to settle-up afterwards. Solution. Check-in at the desk. Take pot luck on the room, and let them put their charge privileges on their own card.

The solution is really to not give anyone else the PIN that you create during online checkin.

Assuming, of course, they are still doing that during online checkin. They keep on changing things, so that one person has no choice but to enter a CC while another person does get a choice.

None of the children in our party, including the 10 year old, were given charging privileges when I actually went through the WHOLE checkin, even though it LOOKED as though they all were.

And then, of course, when we actually got to the hotel they had lost our CC info so it was moot. And then due to a horrid room problem they wanted to give us credit, which meant we had to put charging on the room, which then took TWO hours and a total rebooking of the room that we had moved to that morning, and so they gave us more room credit...so ultimately they did have our CC for charging, but, again, we simply did not give the other adults in the party the PIN that we created. Nor did we tell them that we had put room charging on (at that specific time they were only requiring the PIN for purchases over $50, but I've heard that now they require it on ALL purchases).

I had read that someone was able to do this; I tried to check-in this way a couple of days ago about 5 times and was not able to do so.

I have never been required to submit a pin when doing online check-in, nor seen anything like a pin; are we both talking about DVC check-in--is it different for people reserving with cash?

I'm not sure of the cut off age for charging; I know the young teenager was given charging privileges, and the age the CM quoted was young IMHO.

Setting up a PIN is new. I assume because of RFID.

Establishing a PIN is part of on-line check-in using My Disney Experience. Once you get to the Resort, they are supposed to check to see if you have a PIN setup and if you don't they should have you do that then. Once a PIN is established, if you check-in using MDE for a reservation for a later date the PIN should still be there.

Use of a PIN is only for 'Touch to Pay' transactions (any dollar amount) charged to your KTTW card.

I know you can change it at the front desk, unless something has changed. Last year we brought my parents along, but I had the front desk give them KTTW cards without charging privileges.

I don't do on line checking except when only with DH for that reason. Other times I only want charging on my card.

We had a PIN set up on our trip a few weeks ago. Sometimes it worked at the check-outs and sometimes it didn't. I don't think the PIN is a solution to keep others from using charging privileges because the CM just processes the charge another way.

I recently did online check in for our May DVC stay at OKW. Yes I needed a CC# and I needed to add a pin to each person staying with us. ( 6 people ) 2 of the people are my DD-20 DD-22 boyfriends . I put in pin #s for them but I'm just going to tell them that they CAN'T charge anything to room ! I can't see why this is a problem for some people. One way or another charger needs to present some sort of card so they can use their own CC. Seems like a lot of angst on here about CC #s :confused3

There are a couple of options for your DD's and their boyfriends:
a) you could have the front desk remove charging from their KTTW cards
b) they could put their own CC#s on file with the front desk tied to their specific KTTW cards

Thanks for the idea. No I will just tell the boyfriends they can't charge ! I set up the resv so I listed pin #s for them.(Different than ours) As far as they know they don't have pin #s. DD's however have me around their little fingers princess: They can charge away !

That's interesting about the pins. Since we didn't want our friends to have our charging we didn't do online check-in. Of course we could just tell them not to charge and I know they wouldn't. A problem can arise when young teenage nieces have charging on my card; I was more concerned about their cards being left by the pool or something since they aren't used to being careful with credit cards. That's what I was dealing with.

And having the front desk remove charging and cutting new keys defeats the purpose of a speedy check-in.

I agree! We were there in late January and did activate a PIN during our BWV checkin. Not one time did we ever have to use the PIN while charging with our card. We wondered why we had to do this. When dining at TS or CS no one ever asked us to enter our PIN. Even when playing minigolf and paying with our room charge, never had to enter our PIN.

OP, when you check in at the desk, you can tell them who you want to have charging and who you don't want. We travel with our adult kids and we do tell them not to put charging on anyone cards except us.

I think they may have changed this. I think they were originally asking for your PIN for purchases over a certain amount (merchandise purchases only), but now I think they're asking for the PIN for all purchases (merchandise). Some one who has been there more recently, please chime in.

So now they've changed back again. Ugh.
