ONION HATERS unite!

I finally got my first tag - and over something I HATE too - onions!
Thank you Tag Fairy!
I still hate onions but I am not glad to admit it even more!!!

I actually make my own onion free salsa. It's the only salsa I will eat.

Care to share the recipe? It would be nice to eat salsa - not just drain the juice off of it to dip my chips into..

Onions are of the devil. :sad2: (So are olives, mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes that are not ground up and served in ketchup or marinara sauce).

Gosh! I could eat at your house every day of the week!!! :thumbsup2 (If I was invited, that is! :rotfl: )

Congrats, Disney Hot Mama! :cheer2:

I got a new, oniony tag myself! Thank you Tag Fairy!!

LMAO, I got another tag. Although if the Tag Fairy sees that last post, she's going to replace it with that one.

I never met an onion that I liked. :sad2:

I can spot a onion a mile away :sail: and will spend however long it takes picking them out of my food.

When I "eat" onion rings, I eat the batter and throw the onion away. :p

Salsa without onions!

Your choice of any type of canned or fresh, peeled and diced tomatoes drained: Roma, fire roasted, smoked, red, green or yellow.

Add
1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin or cumin seeds
1 teaspoon chili powder or hot sauce to taste
2 tablespoons lime juice
salt and pepper to taste

Optional: garlic, minced to taste
A little sugar if salsa is too tart

Mix all ingredients. Chill until serving. The longer you let the ingredients marinate, the better the taste. :thumbsup2

If using fresh tomatoes, place in a food processor. Process using pulse setting until an evenly chunky texture is obtained.

I serve this with a side of low fat sour cream & add shredded cheese to the salsa. Eat with your favorite chips, of course!

A great place to look for recipes made without onions is:
Allrecipes.com You can do a recipe search and list that you do NOT want onions as one of the ingredients! :cool1: I love that there are reviews listed with recipes. This way you know how people tweaked the recipe & it it's even worth making. :thumbsup2

Thanks for posting the salsa recipe! It sounds good. :thumbsup2

What is wrong with you people? Give onions a chance. Try a raw red onion, carmelized onions, onion rings, or a blooming onion.

Chopping onions used to make me tear up until I got contacts. Now, no problem. So we only have onions on days I don't wear my glasses.

A funny onion story, that I have told before on the DIS, and someone else got a tag from it. When I moved to NC from VT, we had a spelling test in English class on the first day of school. The teacher (with an amazing southern accent) said this word "uhn-yun." I asked her to repeat it three times, and ended up spelling phonetically. It was the only word I got wrong, and boy I was surprised when the corrected paper said "onion."

I can't tell you the joy I feel knowing that a thread *I* started has caused the Tag fairy to bless some individuals!

Thank you TF! :thumbsup2

After SEVEN years, I finally have received my FIRST tag--and it's got ONIONS in it, too! It IS a conspiracy! They are in EVERYTHING!!!

I also got my first tag from my complete hatred of onions!!! Who knew the Tag Fairy found onions so interesting! :teeth:

Onions ARE in everything, even tags!! We can't escape them, no matter what we do!! Us onion haters are doomed, I tell you! Doomed!! :faint:

So this is what the other side looks like.... It seems so.... lonely.

I'm jump on the ONION HATERS band wagon. Can't stand the things. If I make a recipe that calls for onions, I either omit or puree them!!!

Just checking: How did all you Onion Haters survive Thanksgiving? Especially if others were cooking? People always put onions in stuffing & gravies.

This thread is totally hilarious! I also hate onions! I can't stand the texture of them and I hate it when I'm supposed to be eating something soft - like dressing - and it cruches! I also hate celery for the same reason.

No one gets the "texture thing". When I'm eating soups DH will always say, "You can't even taste them." Yeah, but I can "feel" them! YUCK!!!!!

I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for everyone - I cooked everything so I have control over what is prepared and what ingredients I use..... Guess what?
No onions anywhere!!!!

And it all tasted delicious - no complaints!

Hate onions, love garlic.
