One Way Trip to Canada, Eh? FINAL THOUGHTS 08/10

I did try one on my phone - but I'm a grandma, so I really need to bigger print!:lmao: I went with the NookColor because I think it is ahead of the Wi-Fi game, and I want to use it for email and checking numbers when I travel, so it can be a tax deduction - and the whole Kindle - Pedophilia manual debaucle sealed it for me - I'm boycotting Amazon.

I guess I'm hesitating cause I really want an ipad but they are so pricey. I'm at least glad I stalled long enough to wait for ipad2 but it will probably be 3 or 4 before I finally shell out the dough. ;) I mean that's enough for a Disney trip for us!
The nook color sounds great though...I'm tempted! haha!

ITA about that slimeball and Amazon- so glad one of the sherriffs down here arrested that guy!!!

You will love the Nook! I got one of the originals a year ago and it is fantastic! Took it on my Med cruise and it was so nice to have one device and not a suitcase full of books.

UPS should be ringing my doorbell any minute!!! Can't wait!:woohoo:

My next chapter in the Planes, Trains and automobile saga is complete! I purchased our train tickets - great rate I got AAA and military discounts on seats in Business Class - both for $60! We will be leaving Vancouver at 5:45 pm and arriving in to Stanwood at 8:36 -(Lord willing and the creek don't rise :rotfl:) I talked to DSIS today and she informed me they have an airport shuttle service at the freeway exit to Stanwood, so we should be able to get to SEA without too much difficulty on Thurs afternoon. With our flight leaving at 6:25 at night, I didn't want to take the commuter train out at 8am!

With all our transportation needs settled, I will now turn my attention to getting our FE gifts settled, and making an FE, as well as getting door magnets made. I will have a week during Spring Break without any business, so I should be able to get crackin'!

The other huge excitement of the day is that my NookColor should be arriving any minute!:yay: I think I will look in to the suggested book titles to download and by that time I should have my new toy! Thanks everyone for suggestions!

Does anyone know why my Ticker keeps appearing and disappearing from my siggie???

Husband & I also booked B2B Vancouver/ Alaska. Looking forward to being able to send PM to be included on roster, etc.

So is it here yet?

Tickers seem to do that at times not sure why. Maybe it is not sure your going or not.

Yep! The truck was actually a couple of hours late, so I barely had time to open the box and eat dinner before running off to an appointment. I have played with it and downloaded some suggested reading, as well as a couple of titles I stumbled on myself. So far, I really like it. Now to find out how to load movies and games - might as well get the full effect, right?

:cheer2: Welcome! It will be nice to see you over on the thread, and here too! Hopefully we will meet up on the ship!:yay:

With the cruise planning heading into the final stretch, we have checked a few things off the list. We weren't sure what we were doing in Victoria and Vancouver - but we have looked over the area guides and priced car rentals vs. taxis. We have decided to taxi and trolley!

Victoria: We will taxi to Craigdorrich castle and Buchart Gardens, and then see if we can have a taxi drive by the Victorian homes on the way back to the ship. Not sure where we will lunch, but I'm sure we will see something.

Vancouver:
After disembarking, we will take the Trolley to Stanley Park, and probably do the horse-drawn tour of the park. We will see totem poles and statues and wildlife galore!!:woohoo: Then we'll take the Trolley back to Canada Place, get our luggage and Taxi to the train station.

FE Gifts: I have ordered some fun items to go in the FE thingys! Next week I'm going to make our FE - just because I can - and start printing magnets. I know what I want to do for the FE's now, so we're getting there!

Packing: I can't really pack much, because we will still be needing the Spring/Winter clothes we are wearing now - except I can pack shorts and swimwear for LA!!! :cloud9:
Jim's new running shoes arrived today - he'll be wearing those for walking and running and touring DL!:cool1:

We are down to 40 Days!!

Yeay for forty days!!! Your plans in Canada sound really fun -- can't wait to see the pictures of the totem poles and wildlife! :thumbsup2

I confess. I haven't really understood the popularity of Vera Bradley. I think the prints are pretty - sometimes it reminds me of the 70's, but I have started to really like the bags.

I decided to venture in to that world and order a cover for my Nook. I received it yesterday, and I am hooked!!! The fabric is so nice - I am now regretting that I chose to purchase a Miche bag with two covers - I wish I had just purchased two Vera's instead! I will enjoy my Nook case for now:

P.S. I love the presentation - beautiful VB box, with the receipt in that signature envelope, and wrapped in tissue!

Following along since my dad and I will be at the same table as you all. Can't wait to meet every one. I'll be doing a trip report after the trip.

Welcome JULIA! I look forward to your TR! I'm just saving my place with this one - I will do the real reporting when I get back, too!

Oh, I love your new Nook cover! Very pretty!

Thank you! I know you are a VB fan!:thumbsup2

I've been waiting for our cruise docs - almost everyone else on our DIS meet thread has gotten theirs - the doorbell rang - I opened it. Yes! It's the Mail lady! I got boxes - cruise clothes and FE Exchange stuff I ordered! :yay::yay::yay::yay: I can't wait to put them together. I'm just waiting for a few more pieces to come together! pirate:

Sadly, No Mickey Mail. :sad2:

Business is slow this week with Spring Break, so I'm taking a break and getting things ready for our trip, finishing my parent's taxes, and organizing my office, which has been in a state of terrible disarray since the beginning of the year.

Oh, and my most favorite (NOT) Getting some Spring Cleaning Done!

Hi Tammie,

My daughter and I will be on the LA to Vancouver repo cruise too! This is our first cruise ever, although we are already big Disneyland fans.

We live in Victoria and can definitely give you some tips there. You mentioned going to Butchart Gardens by cab. Just be aware that Butchart Gardens is quite a ways out of the city (about 25 - 30 minutes) so you might still want to rent that car. A cab would be pretty close to $60 each way.

In the alternative (and if you don't want to book the Disney excursion) you could try Grayline tours directly. I believe they pick up from the Empress hotel (which is a landmark hotel downtown - a short cab ride from the cruise ship port)

I definitely recommend going to Butchart Gardens though. It's one of Victoria's premier tourist attractions.

Had to check when you were coming to Canada. Got snow today so I thought maybe you arrived....:lmao: So much for Spring.

Loved the Nook cover. How is it to use? Do you have to charge it a lot? Easy to read at night. I do love holding books though . I found my self holding up my dd Ipod on a trip home one night to see the pages in the car..... I am not every techy. Heck I have a cell phone but don't even know what my number is. Just use it for emergencies and the school to call if I am not at home.

Hooray for getting mail! I love getting packages in the mail!

Thanks for the tips! Maybe we should rent the car. I thought the Gardens would be on the way back from the Castle - see what I know? :goodvibes

We have had snow on and off all week, too - with a Winter Storm warning coming - that is our Spring, too!:goodvibes

I do love the cover, except I think I might like one that functions like a book cover more. This is more like an envelope - but the fabric is really nice to touch - I'm strange about textures:goodvibes

I find that I get a little cramped holding it sometimes, because I am not techy either and I seem to always be touching the wrong places. I might need to get a hard cover that it clips in to. I do love reading at night, and I think the battery will be really long lasting. I can't play videos yet - Flash isn't ready for the Nook, and you can play Utube, but it is blurry, because the Utube thinks it's playing on a phone. Jim wants me to download movies, but I don't know how. I think I'll just have him bring his DVDs - I want to read, not watch his movies!:rotfl2:

Hooray for getting mail! I love getting packages in the mail!

Yuki! Nice to see you - I know you are so busy. I do hope the docs come tomorrow! They have made it to the Netherlands, NH and Hawaii - why not Oregon?

Mickey Mail! Wwe have Mickey Mail! Actually it came yesterday, but I haven't had time to take pics and download until now. I'm sure you require proof that I am actually telling the truth, not just trying to be :cool1: so:

Here is my door magnet - I think I'll add a red mat to it - or maybe see if I can get Mickey to autograph it! AND our cruise doc booklet!!!!

I just love the Disney Themes: (my spell check says that themeing isn't a word - apparently the developers haven't been on the DIS much)

IMGP2505.jpg

My pile for packing - down the edge of the guest bed - think I can fit it in one bag so I can leave room for FE gifts in the other?

Our suitcases - standing at attention and waiting to be filled

These pictures make it feel like we really are going!:dance3: I printed our signature page for the docs, printed our train tickets, cancelled a previous car rental I had considered. Last night I finished some FE gifts, so I'm almost ready to stuff the treat bags! Now I'm getting ready to wrap some gifts for a DIS meet I am attending next weekend in Salem, and write out some thank you cards before volunteering at church tonight.

I didn't get as much done this week as I had hoped, but I feel a little more ready to face the next 4 weeks!!!
