One time Use Points

We currently have a trip planned for mid August and it is looking unlikely that it is going to happen. Unfortunately we purchased 24 one time use points that will go back into our 2020 use year but we probably won't be able to go again before they expire. I know the policy is you can't bank those points or get a refund, but has anyone heard of either of those happening to guests during this pandemic? If so what were the circumstances? Also, are those points able to be rented? Thanks for any info anyone may have.

DVC was refunding one time use points while resorts were closed, but I don't think they will now that they are back open. As far as I know, you'll only be able to use them during the use year purchased, no banking. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to rent them, as long as the reservation is during the same use year. You'll likely lose some of the money spent, as you're unlikely to get $19 per point for a rental, but if it is a large enough reservation, that will at least bring the loss down as you spread the difference across all points rented.

Also, don't forget if you do rent them, you'll need to call member services to make the reservation and let them know you want to use the one time use points for the reservation, as one time use points will not show up online.

I have rescheduled our trip multiple times and since the resorts are open there is no refund. I was told only if Disney cancels would we get a refund. We have almost a last ditch trip over Labor Day using just banked and OTU points but I’m doubtful we will feel comfortable going. The reality of a timeshare, truly a luxury and be prepared to lose some money along the way...
