I'm working on planning our first official trip as DVC members, and will need to purchase a few One Time Use Points. I understand the points can only be purchased at the 7 month window, so my plan is to book the first few nights with the points I have for my home resort (BRV), then call at the 7 month window to add the points and book the final night. My question is, can I call 7 months prior to the start of my trip, or does it have to be 7 months prior to the night I want to add on?

For instance, I'm planning on going July 13 - 17. I have enough points for July 13-16. If I book the nights I have the points for now, can I call 7 months prior to July 13 to add the additional points and night, or would I have to call 7 months prior to July 16?

You should call 7 months prior to the 13th. Technically you are modifying your stay, and you can add a day on the 13th, so you should be able to get the points the 13th. It is really not different from getting points for the night of the 13th and moving your other ressie from the 14th to the 17th.

You should be able to call 7 months prior to July 13, and have Member Services add the additional night (assuming it's available, of course). I just did something similar a couple of weeks ago. I had a 7 night stay planned, but was 7 points shy of the amount I needed. I booked 6 nights on the last day of the 11 month window and called back the next day (first day of the 7 month window for the first night of my stay) and added the additional night using OTUPs. Good thing I did, too, because the next day, the room type I booked was no longer available for one of my nights.

To use OTU for the night of the 17th, you have to wait until 7 months out for hat night.

Since the first part is booked during home resort times, you won’t be able to extend that prior to the 7 month window you are getting the points.

Now, what you can do, is Just book your trip starting with night 2, and then you’d be able to add the 13th right at 7 months.

But one can not extend a home resort reservation at 7 months to pick up days outside the 7 month window for those days, unless the entire trip is still available. If that is the case, then you would be allowed to buy and book starting on the 13th.

I am surprised they let you. My understanding is that you are not allowed to modify a home resort reservation to pick up additional days unless you can still book the days at the start of 7 months.

They effectively let you book a night outside its 7 month window since the first nights were grabbed prior, unless all the nights you had booked we’re still available the day the window opened.

Got it, but in theory couldn't I just do what jerseyduke suggests above? Book July 13-16th, then call 7 months prior to July 13th, modify my reservation to the 14th-17th (since it's my home resort) and at the same time add on the additional points needed at that point to book the 13th since I will then be within the 7 month window for the one time use points?

Yes, I didn’t see his response before I typed!

This is incorrect. If you are extending an existing stay, you call at the 7 month mark from the first night of your current booking. I just did this last week. It is considered a modification of your current reservation. I specifically asked this same question and was told that it was considered a modification and the 7 month date would be the first day of the existing reservation.

Good to know. it was not my understanding since by modifying a home resort reservation and extending it from the first day, you are picking up days outside the 7 month window,

Sounds like I had wrong information.

We just bought a OKW contract to go with our AKV contracts. It was the first time I ever combined contracts at the 7 month mark and I also needed to purchase OTU points. I was thinking it worked the other way as well. The CM explained to me how it worked. I was glad, because I thought I had to wait another 5 days.

Worth mentioning: Even modifying, you can only extend to up to 7 nights at open of 7 months, so booking 7 nights at 11 and wanting to add 3 at 7 months you would have to wait for 7 months + 3 days to get all 3 additional days.

I will possible need to buy some one time use points ( 9-10). Can i purschase the points by chat on the member website? Or Only by phone?

Previously it had to be done on the phone. They read you all this garbage about the transaction that you have to agree to (basically, yea, Im buying points that I must use, arent bankable, etc, etc) then take your CC number

Also keep in mind they do not show up on your online account so you have to book over the phone to use them
