One-time use points question

I’m hoping to book a studio at Aulani for next July (mid-month), and from the availability tool I’ve seen, it seems like I’d have a decent chance to get island garden view and up at the 7-month mark. I’m not completely sure how many nights we want, so I was wondering if I log in and book (for example) 3 nights when booking opens online, would I be able to call and extend the stay by one night if I need to buy some one-time use points? I wasn’t sure if that was allowed. Also, online booking opens earlier than phone booking, correct? And one-time use points can only be purchased via phone at the 7-month mark to complete a reservation? TIA!

You can extend the stay by one night at the 7 month mark as long as the number of one time use points needed to complete the reservation is 24 points or less. Online booking opens at 8AM EST, phone booking opens at 9AM EST.

Yes, this is what I do - book online at 8 AM Eastern as many nights as I can with my points, then call at 9 AM Eastern to buy the OTUP and have MS book the additional night(s). Works great when the room you want isn't in extremely high demand, but for something like an AKV Jambo value studio, it doesn't work so well, because your room might disappear during that hour.

I book something 7 months out (but more than 31 days out if I have to cancel) to book the room with OTUP so I just modify that when I need to pick up my full reservation so I don’t have to call at 9 am.

So you just go into your existing reservation and modify, without having to cancel anything?
