one time use points question plz

what happens if you purchase one time use points to make a reservation, but then decide to cancel the day they have been used towards?
do you get those points back into your account for that use year?

If you drop one night off your stay, you can request which points you want back. Let's say you own SSR and booked a stay somewhere for 100 points, using 90 current UY SSR points and 10 OTU points. Later, you drop one night that frees up 12 points. You can ask for 12 current UY SSR points back. I suspect that is what MS would do without you asking but it's a good idea to ask what will happen and not assume.

If you cancelled the entire reservation, those 10 OTU points would go back into your account, into the same UY as the cancelled reservation. You won't see those points online so you would have to call MS to use them for another reservation.

thanks Lisa. that is what I needed to know! I'm about 1 night short worth of points for my upcoming December trip and am trying to figure out whether to use otu points or rent from someone. Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't lose the otu points if I canceled.

And those OTU points will expire at the end of that UY if unused. Also, OTU points can't be banked or borrowed.
