What makes you decide to purchase one-time use points instead of borrowing? I'll need more points for the next couple of trips that I'm starting to plan and trying to decide what the better option is. I'm starting to get into the perpetual borrowing phase of my ownership, would love some more points, but that's not in the budget right now. :(

Also, can you buy the 24 one time points and borrow points for the same vacation?

Thanks!

You can rent points from sites like David's, or check out the rent/trade board on this site.

It seems easier to just buy the one-time use points at $15 each when only needing a few...or am I missing something? For example, I need 29 more points for the next vacation, so I was thinking I would purchase the 24 one time use and borrow the other 5. It seems like less trouble than trying to rent that exact number.

To me it sounds simpler and more economical to just continue to borrow until there is nothing left to borrow from (unless you are saving home resort points for a specific vacation). At that point rent or purchase the remaining. I have never rented, but I did purchase one time use points once. I was traveling for work and needed a financial transaction that could be reimbursed.

The 24 one-time-use points can only be used at 7 months. You do not get any home-resort advantage when you use them.

I know that I will be using all of my points for this UY and every UY going forward for the foreseeable future, so I frequently end up buying the one time use points because I don't want to eat into our next vacation (or not eat into it as much.) Also, I find dealing with points that belong to me to be easier than having to rely on someone else to handle my reservation (when I rent points from someone else).

I would purchase them if I needed a few and decided I wanted to save my points for a future trip for the 11 month advantage. Because I have two UY's, which is two memberships, I'd also do that instead of having to book nights on both and have them connected.

Does anyone know what happens if you purchase the one time use points and then cancel the reservation?

I have only been a member since December, but have already used some one time use points. I was planning a last minute trip and needed a few more points. Since I was within 7 months, I figured I would buy the points instead of borrowing. I am not sure when the next time I would be able to buy the points, since the next few trips will be booked at 11 months.
