One time use and waitlisting

So, I want to switch resorts at the 7 month mark. The reservation tool currently shows that the resort I want is open during my dates, but only for a view that will cost a few more points than I have available. If I book the upgraded room, and have to purchase some one time use points via the phone with member services to cover it, then I waitlist the same resort (but the 'cheaper' room), and my waitlist comes through....what happens? Does my reservation automatically get switched and the purchased points go away (if so, are they credited back to my card automatically)? Or do a certain amount of my non-purchased points get credited back to my account?

The one-time purchased use points will be credited back to your account. The purchase of one-time use points is a final transaction and no refund will be given. Please be aware that these points must be used during the use year they were purchase for and cannot be banked.

One-time use points can only be purchased for making reservations in the 7-month window. If the reservation is cancelled, the OTU points would stay in your account, but expire at the end of the UY (they cannot be banked). You cannot see them online and would need to call MS to re-use them.

What should happen in that scenario is that they would continue to use the OTU points for the reservation and some of your regular points would be returned to your account. You would want to double check that it was done that way though and if not ask MS to reallocate the OTU points back against that new reservation.

Agree with KAT. That's how it worked for me, recently.

Know that if any OTU points are returned to your account and not used for a reservation right away, you will have to call MS to use them. You will not be able to see them online. They will expire at the end of the use year in which the reservation for which they were first used falls.
