Hey all! I purchased 9pts for an upcoming trip in December. I am trying to move some stuff around but it would require me to be able to purchase the other 13pts of the 24 we are allowed per year. Will they let you purchase these at different times or that the whole point of the one time thing? Do I have to purchase all 24pts at once?

Thank you!

I just did this so hopefully I will say this correct for you...

You are allowed to purchase one time use points for $15.00 per point up to 24 points each use year. You can only purchase these types of points one time per use year.

So for example if you already bought 9 in this use year, you cannot purchase anymore until your next use year. Even though you did not buy all 24 does not matter to my understanding.

Hope I said that clearly because I was hoping to help and not confuse!

Thank you for the explanation. That is what I was afraid of! I almost bought all 24 pts but was not thinking about moving stuff around. Oh well! Will make it work with what I have. Just blessed to be in our favorite place during the Christmas season :)

Thanks again :)

Call MS and ask, you have nothing to lose and may be pleasantly surprised; I was under the impression that they did not need to be purchased in same call so if you need more because of reworking your reservation but do not go over 24pts limit per year that you would be allowed the additional purchase, but of course the way I understood what the CM said could have been a misinterpretation. You could not have purchased all 24 points in that first call anyway unless you needed those 24 points right at that moment is my understanding as well.

Good luck with your planning :goodvibes

Point #4 right in the FAq sheet about one time use points on the DVC site...

•A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.

Sorry bud... pretty straight forward. Still might not hurt to just ask, they may sprinkle on some pixie dust

Can members still transfer points to one another? I remember a one time transfer rule. Was this eliminated with the purchase option? If not maybe you could purchase points from a memberat less than $15/pt.

You can still transfer once per UY, in or out. The one time use points from MS do not take the place of this so someone could still get transferred points after they have bought the points from MS.

I called this week and was advised that you can only make one purchase per use year--all 24 points or 1 point count as a purchase. You also need to use all the points for a reservation when you buy them. So you could not have bought the full 24 without making a reservation for all 24 at that time.

That is what I was told and the CM did seem knowledgable, but you never know.

none of my business but just curious... why would you rent points from Disney for $15 when you could rent them from Timeshare store or another company for $12 a point with no restrictions? I guess it is easier to do it over the phone with Disney but is there any other advantage to using Disney?

the way I see it is if you buy direct from disney then you are guaranteed those points you are not putting your faith in someone else who could easily take their points and do something else with them. In my experience I have found that renters are not willing to do a transfer for a small number of points so you need to rent enough to cover an additional night too.

I'd imagine if you buy from Disney they are assigned to you and you can use them as you would your own points.

Another reason to purchase one-time points from Disney rather than renting is that you can't "add points to make a night"...for example, say you're 5 points short for that last night of your vacation....if you buy the one-time points from Disney, you can make up that shortfall and get that last night. However, if you rent from someone else, you'd have to have the someone else reserve that last night for you (for the full point cost of the night) and then link the reservations...

So, say you need five points--in my mind, it just wouldn't be worth $15 (the difference in cost between $15/point for five points from Disney versus $12/point from another owner) to lose control over the last night's reservation, find someone else to make it/link it, etc.

Of course, you could do a transfer and wind up with the ability to combine points for a single night...but then you're using your one "one-time-per-use-year-only" transfer, and the person you're getting the transfer from is also using his/her one-only per use year. This could be difficult with a small number of points.
