One thing I HATED about DCL: Security overkill

thanks! One less concern.

Counting the days.....

Anything removed from your luggage for a security concern will be replaced by a note in the luggage, and you can reclaim such articles from customs upon your return to port. This answer is pre 9/11, so that may have changed but I doubt it.

This is personal experience when my parents, not knowing, packed an ornamental sword from Epcot Japan in the checked luggage. Mrs and I were like what were they thinking??

I imagine anything bladed will always be removed from luggage, 9/11 or no.

When one person drops off the rest of the family, make sure that one person retains his or her photo ID when they leave to park the car. They will need that to get by the check points when walking back in.

Can't swear to what happens on the cruise, but I know what happens in an airport, thanks to DH. He had apparently dropped his little pocketknife into my purse sometime since I had last flown. Who know why? Anyway, when my purse went through the xray machine, they pulled it aside, pointed out that I had what appeared to be a pocket knife in it and told me I had 3 choices. 1) Take the bag and check it, 2) Go to the Post Office drop in the airport and mail it to myself, or 3) Leave it with them and they would dispose of it. After verifying that this wasn't the knife I had given DH for a wedding gift, I chose 3.

I do remember that pre-911 you could leave it there and pick it up on your return flight, but apparently now they don't want to deal with it.

Don't think DCL would have gone to that, airports get hundreds of thousands thru every day and no guarantee they'll be passing back thru to pick anything up.

DCL gets less than twenty thousand a week, and a guarantee they'll all be back thru. No upside on the customer relations side to take things and throw them away. But I havn't seen any such situation personally since, maybe someone who has can comment.

As I said, the only time it's happened to anyone in my group they held and returned.
