Ok, by husband's leg (left) has been swollen from the middle of his shin down to his ankle for almost 2 weeks now. It's only his left leg, and he says it doesn't hurt at all. Anyone know what this could be? We have no health ins. right now, so he doesn't want to go in & have it looked at, but I'm worried:confused:

Is it warm to the touch?
Better be safe than sorry and make it isn't serious. I.E a bloodclot.

Hopefully it is not a big deal at all. I don't mean to scare you, but my mom had almost those exact symptoms last week (at least that is what she tells me--we are on totally different continents). She had no pain with the swelling either (swelling in ankle area). Her boyfriend finally talked her into having it looked at and she was diagnosed with Acute Thrombosis and hospitalized immediatly. She has been there 5 days and is supposed to be released today if all goes well. She has been on IV blood thinner and will take oral blood thinners for the next several months and be monitored pretty closely. It is good she went in when she did. As I understand it (again I am not there so my info is very limited) it is basically a blood clot and the clot could have come off at any time and traveled to her heart, lungs, or brain and been fatal.
So, obviously I would suggest getting checked out whether insured or not.
Best of luck.

This is very similar to the symptoms that my husband had and he was diagnosed with a depp vein thrombosis (DVT). Your DH needs to see a doctor, this is a very dangerous but treatable condition. If it turns out to be a DVT, your DH should ask to be genetically tested for hypercoagulation ... that was my husband's problem which was not discovered until a year after the DVT and he threw clots to BOTH lungs. The genetic problem can be inherited by your children; my DD has needed to take blood thinners during both pregnancies to prevent miscarriages.

If your DH's family has a medical history of strokes, varicose veins, or miscarriages then he needs to be tested. MY DH's mother died of a stroke and had a history of miscarriages and varicose veins, his brother also had a DVT.

Same thing happened to me too but I didn't go to the doctor. Eventually I did experience the worst pain in my life in my legs which was the DVTs. Please get it checked out. These types of things can break off and travel to the lungs and the heart and by then it can be too late.

Keep us posted.

I had a vein inside my leg burst, and get infected, I had the same symptom, but it was red and warm to the touch, and felt like I had burned it. My Dr. told me to elevate it for 4 days, and take a LOT of Ibuprofen about 500 4 times a day...after 2 weeks it was ok, but I had to see the Dr. all 2 weeks.

Wow--thanks for the heads up-I will definately try to get him in SOON. He keeps saying he wont go to the doctor until it hurts--I will make him read this. Thanks again!:)
