No offense intended to anyone here, but I did not see any guarantee of any "special rate" on my DVC Cruise post card.

Did you all expect something for nothing? I agree that we as a group deserve more "perks" but really, it's just a cruise set aside for DVC....I expect nothing as long as ME and company are at the helm....I wish it was different but my baby girl still smiles when we walk into the parks :-)

I didn't get the impression that people were expecting something for nothing. It apeared to me they were expecting to pay the same price for this 4 day cruise as they would pay for any other 4 day cruise in value season. The points/cash required for the Member Cruise (which is taking place in value sason) are higher than all the other value season cruises, and no one seems to know why that should be.

I guess I am somewhat in the same boat. Though we never could go on this cruise with school schedules being what they are, I think it is pretty cool that they chartered a whole ship, are giving people a second day at Castaway Cay (everybody seems to say that might be the best part of the cruise), and the possibility of special events and getting to know other DVCers sounds pretty good to me. I'm very cost conscious, but I think this still sounds pretty good. I would also not necessarily jump to conclusions until we have all the facts about what is and isn't included. This is a charter after all, and it is POSSIBLE that some things that are not otherwise included on the DCL cruises might be included in this instance (perhaps no rentals at Castaway Cay, perhaps free soda mugs). I kind of doubt it, but I have kind of developed a wait and see attitude on this sort of thing. Hope everyone that chooses to go has a great time! Wish we could join you!

I did not expect a special rate (although that would have been an incentive to book). But I also did not expect to pay more for that cruise than the weeks on either side of that cruise. I think if it were for the same price as the normal cruise, you would only have seen some folks whining about last year's discounted rate versus the regular rate.

In fact, my wife were seriously considering moving our Oct '03 cruise to Feb. If it was for a discounted rate (like the previous year), we were considering upgrading to a larger room than we already planned for.

But since it will cost more than a normal cruise, we will stay with our Oct '03 plans.

I am not mad at DVC or the cruise line or whatever division came up with this, I just don't think it was too smart to offer a cruise for more than current value without explanation for the extra cost.
