"One Step Ahead of the Slowpokes!"- A Dec '10/Jan '11 Trip Report! FINISHED 3/9 pg 38

We each used a CS credit and got a huge breakfast platter.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010310.jpg

Each platter had french toast, eggs, potatoes, and a biscuit. The only difference in our meals was that John got bacon with his and I got sausage. Then for our beverages I had a diet soda and orange juice and John had a regular soda and Nesquik.

I didn't realize how hungry I was until I started eating. Apparently I was starving because I'm pretty sure I ended up with a happy plate! It was really nice sitting there in the warmth enjoying our breakfast. I always appreciate stopping for a meal during busy times at Disney because our table becomes our little safe haven away from all the crowds. While we were eating I made the mental note that the music from the movie Pearl Harbor was playing. Not sure why I thought that was important to mention, but I've remembered it all this time so I felt the need to share! :confused3

I love Sunshine Seasons. October will be our first trip not eating there. With the DxDP though we have all the sit downs planned out. Except we'll probably use our last credits at Pizza Planet on our last day. That one is just for the kids since they both want to eat there.

After our yummy breakfast it was time to go soarin'!

DisneyChristmasTrip2010311.jpg

I have to admit, the first time I rode Soarin' it was after I waited in a two hour standby line, and the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It just didn't seem worth all the hype! I feel differently now, however. I love it! My favorite part is smelling the wonderful oranges. I love it! :cloud9:

I think we used a FP the first time but I have stood in a two hour line for it when the kids both really wanted to ride and FP's were all gone. We enjoyed it just as much but we were in line with some really nice people and could actually hear the rain pouring down when we went by an emergency exit so we were pretty happy to be dry and in line at that point. :)

After we finished our adventure over California we decided to try Living with the Land one more time. Let me just say...Oh. My. Gosh. The crowds were absolutely INSANE. There was a huge crowd heading from Living with the Land to Soarin' and another huge crowd heading from Soarin' to Living with the Land. There was literally not one inch of room that wasn't packed with bodies. I immediately started to panic, and my panic only got worse when I realized there was total stranger walking behind me, pushing me forward with both of her hands ON MY BUTT. I'm not joking. I turned around and practically yelled in her face, "DO YOU MIND?!" and she just looked at me like I was the crazy one. Some people!

Maybe she wasn't the one feeling you up? Maybe there was some really sneaky pervert nearby? :confused3

By this time John and I had both had enough of this, so we forced our way through the crowds and to the escalator. No ride was worth that nonsense!

Before we left The Land I took a picture of the chaos below.

DisneyChristmasTrip2010312.jpg

Ugh! I still shudder just looking at that picture!

:scared1:

DisneyChristmasTrip2010314.jpg

I was pretty excited about seeing this show, but John and I both left the theater a little while later like this: . That was SO weird! I know it was from the 80s, but it was just completely strange to me. John thought it was hilarious, and he spent the rest of the day calling me "Hooter" in this weird Michael Jackson voice. :lmao:

I remember it being really weird but I still can't wait for my kids to see it. :rotfl:

After our very...um...interesting experiences we were ready to explore more of Epcot! I bet you can guess where we were off to next!

I have no idea!

Up Next: The weather finally improves as we explore the World Showcase! Stay tuned! :wizard:

Thanks for ruining the surprise!

As we were entering the WS a miraculous thing happened. It got warm! This was the first time it had been warm the entire trip, so John and I both took off our jackets and did a little happy dance. The weather was gorgeous! Unfortunately my head cold was still bringing me down, but not enough to ruin this moment! :cloud9:

DisneyChristmasTrip2010315.jpg

Hooray for our solar system's star!

It hadn’t taken us long at all the get through Canada and the UK, so we still had tons of time before our lunch reservations and France was our next country. That was fine with me, though! France and Japan are my favorites countries in the WS! John speaks fluent French because he’s in the Special Forces and had to learn a second language, so he loves it too!

I took two years of french in high school then switched to German. I only know a few words of each. I've been thinking of trying Rosetta Stone. Is that what it's called. It would be nice to know another language, plus my brain is turning to mush and I need to focus on something.

As we entered Canada I saw a man that looked an awful lot like SANTA CLAUS! He was speaking to a small crowd of people. I had to investigate this further.

100_0047.jpg

As we approached the Santa-like man John informed that he was actually le Père Noël, which is the French version of good ol’ Santy Claus. He was talking about Christmas traditions in France. It was very interesting, but I had other things in France to check out!

La Père Noël appears to be giving you the stink eye. This does not bode well for your gifts this coming Christmas.

100_0050.jpg

I made a mental note to come back and buy a bottle, but I ended up forgetting. Maybe next time!

Sounds like something I would do. Brain! Mush! Winning! Duh!

As we were looking around I saw Marie from Aristocats! I immediately thought of Jen (Nermel9) because she loves Marie so much. I considered meeting her for a picture, but changed my mind. I wasn’t feeling very photogenic because of my head cold. I did take a really cute picture of her, though.

100_0052.jpg

I feel kind of creepy for taking a picture of someone else’s child, but how cute is that?! I wish I could find his parents and send them this picture. I think they would love it!

I agree, it is kind of creepy. We should start a thread for people to post pictures that they got of other people's kids. Then if someone comes across their kid they could contact you for the proper size jpg. :goodvibes

100_0053.jpg

The Grand Marnier orange slushie! :lovestruc Oh, be still my heart. I love these things. Ever since I came to Disney on my honeymoon (the first time I was twenty-one at Disney) I have had to get one of these. They are SO delicious and refreshing!

Looks yummy! I would say that I should try one but I'm not sure what the F&W booths really have in terms of mixed drinks so I may be busy and forget.

Up Next: The king of burgers and fries steps out of his comfort zone for some French food! Will he like it? Stay tuned!

Can't wait to hear about your meal. You give great food reports. popcorn::

Wow! It looks like a gorgeous day! :cloud9:

I gotta get down there to see those decorations someday!

That little boy and Marie are too cute! :cutie:

Can't wait to hear about Les Chefs! We love it there! :goodvibes

Yay! I'm so glad to hear it warmed up for you two! :cool1: Being cold at Disney really does make you appreciate that Florida sunshine, doesn't it?

I have never noticed that cottage in Canada before! It does look like something right out of Snow White. I'll have to be on the look out for it next time.

I can't wait to read about what you thought of Chefs de France since we'll be dining there for the first time on the honeymoon.

I was so happy for a little bit of warmth! After that trip I am definitely looking forward to going to Disney in the summer again!

I am about to post our dining update in just a minute! :)

I'm so glad it got warm for you!!!

I never realized that waterfall was there either... it scared Jack, since it was dark when we were there!

You said John had to learn French. Do you mind if I ask where he learned it?

I also love the Grand Marnier slushie!! I got my first one in December! I plan to get one in October, but with all the special drink kiosks for F&W... I might not make it.

Can't wait to see what you guys tried at Les Chefs!

Thank you! I was glad too! :)

He learned it when he was in Special Forces training at Fort Bragg. Every person in the Special Forces has to learn another language and John was assigned French!

I would love to try some of the other drinks at the F&W festival!

Ahh so glad it got warmer for you! What a relief that must have been!

That's so cool John is fluent in French. I wish I could speak another language.

I think the Canada pavilion is so pretty. Aww the cottage is really cute! I've never noticed it before.

It was a huge relief!

I wish I could too. John has taught me a little French, but I barely remember any of it!

The Canada pavilion is gorgeous! Although, so is the rest of the WS! :goodvibes

Great update! :thumbsup2 Sooo happy that the weather finally cooperated for you!!! :goodvibes Sounds like you had a great time in WS... it's one of my favorite places to be too! :cloud9:

Thanks! :) I love WS so much! I could spend an entire day there!

:woohoo: on getting the warm weather and finally being able to remove your coats etc!

I love the pictures of WS including the huge waterfall and the cottage - it looks so pretty :cloud9:

Yay on seeing Santa!! I could have used someone who spoke French the other day whilst doing supply teaching. I was stuck in a ninth graders French lesson and didn't have a clue! The students knew more French then I did! :rotfl:

Love the pic of Marie with someone else's child! :thumbsup2

Thanks! :) It was nice being able to take our coats off and soak up a little sunshine!

It is very pretty! WS is gorgeous!

I am horrible with other languages. I can never seem to remember anything I learn!

I love Sunshine Seasons. October will be our first trip not eating there. With the DxDP though we have all the sit downs planned out. Except we'll probably use our last credits at Pizza Planet on our last day. That one is just for the kids since they both want to eat there.

I love Sunshine Seasons too! That was only the second time we've eaten there, but I've enjoyed it both times!

Sometimes waiting in line isn't so bad, especially when it's raining outside!

Maybe you're right about the sneaky pervert! That reminds me of the scene from Home Alone 2 when he pinches the lady's butt and blames it on the criminal! :rotfl:

John gets to use Rosetta Stone for free since he is in the Army but he doesn't even need it. He is great at picking up other languages, but I'm terrible!

:lmao: La Père Noël was giving me the stink eye!

I love your idea about starting a thread for other people's children in pictures! I wonder how many families' Disney photos I am in...

Thanks! :) I'm glad you like I'm dining reviews. I'm getting ready to post the update right now!

Wow! It looks like a gorgeous day! :cloud9:

I gotta get down there to see those decorations someday!

Can't wait to hear about Les Chefs! We love it there! :goodvibes

It was so pretty after it warmed up a bit! :goodvibes

I loved that picture of Marie and the little boy! It reminded me of a Disney advertisement!

That looks like a beautiful day at Epcot :lovestruc

It was! :goodvibes

After we finished our delicious beverages it was almost 1:00 and time for our lunch ADR at Les Chefs de France! We were both really looking forward to trying it out, but I had peeked at the menu in advance and I was a little concerned about whether or not John would find anything he wanted on the menu. He’s a very safe eater usually, so we tend to avoid any adventurous dining. What better place to try new foods than Disney, right? ;)

We went to the check in podium and were told it would be just a few minutes. It was way too crowded to wait indoors so we decided to wait outside. It was pretty cold under the restaurant awning, but they had big heaters set up so it wasn’t too bad. We found a nice corner near a heater to wait and I took a picture of the restaurant plaque.

100_0055.jpg

After I took the picture we waited…and waited…and waited. I looked at my watch after a bit and it was 1:25! We had checked in at least five minutes early, so we had been waiting for half an hour! :headache: I was sick of standing and I was getting really cold, so I was really relieved when they finally called our name.

We were seated and our waiter came over to take our drink order immediately. His name was Luc and he was very friendly. I loved his accent. We ordered our usual: a soda for John and a diet soda for me. While Luc was getting our drinks we deliberated over the appetizer menu.

John decided to order the assiette campagnarde, which is a “rustic assortment of French pates and charcuteries.” I went with the assiette de fromages de France, which was a selection of imported cheeses. Right after we ordered our appetizers a special visitor stopped at the table next to ours!

100_0056.jpg

Remy! :lovestruc This was one of the main reasons I wanted to try Chefs for lunch. I was really hoping we would get to see Remy. He visited with the children at the table next to ours for a few minutes, so I was able to get a good look at him!

After Remy left Luc returned with our appetizers and a French baguette.

100_0057.jpg

100_0059.jpg

John was not impressed at all with his appetizer. He put a little bit of the stuff that looks like potted meat on his bread but he didn’t like it. I don’t blame him. It looked a little too adventurous for me too.

100_0058.jpg

My cheese plate was pretty good. I like “stinky cheeses” (as John calls them) so I liked sampling the different types. I only tried a little bit of each one, however, because I had ordered an entrée with a lot of cheese in it too.

Speaking of entrees, those arrived before long. John had ordered the plat de cote de boeuf au cabernet avec pates, which was “beef short ribs braised in Cabernet with pasta, pearl onions and mushrooms.” I ordered the croque monsieur et sa salade verte which was “the classic French toasted ham and cheese sandwich served with a green salad.”

100_0062.jpg

John said his entrée was “pretty good.” He ate most of it, but he wasn’t over the moon for it or anything.

100_0061.jpg

My entrée choice was pretty tame and I really liked it. The sandwich was delicious but very heavy so I only ate about half of it. The bread had some kind of cheese on the outside of it as well, so it was like a double cheese sandwich!

This was one of the cases where neither one of us really wanted dessert, but we got it anyway because it was included in the DxDP. John ordered the profiterolles au chocolat which was “puff choux with vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce.” I have no clue what my dessert was called, but it was something chocolate.

100_0064.jpg

John said his dessert was really good. It looked like a chocolate éclair to me and he loves those things, so I guess that’s why he liked it.

100_0063.jpg

My dessert was okay, but nothing special. It was like a really dense piece of chocolate cake. I was so full by the time it came around that I only ate a few bites.

After we finished our dessert we gave Luc our KTTW cards, left a tip, and headed out. Overall we were not in love with our lunch. It was an exciting new experience and it was cool that we got to see Remy, but we just aren’t adventurous enough for French dining just yet!

Up Next: Our journey through the WS continues and I try something new!

:lmao: Being "not adventurous enough" is exactly why I'm not going to Chefs de France anytime soon :rotfl: I'm happy with a cheeseburger and fries, or pot roast, or chicken :) But it looks like you guys had a good time regardless! :)

I just found your trip report and I am really enjoying it. We were at Disney for Xmas 09 and are going back for Xmas 11 an also doing WWOHP. As we are all adults (all of our kids are college age) I like reaing trip reports from other adult only trips.

It sounds like you are having a great time and I hope it stays warm for you. I am always cold too and always take a winter jacket and gloves for our Christmas trips (even though one trip it was warm enough to go to a water park).

Looking forward to reading more!

 at waiting for soo long!

Yay at seeing Remy! The food sure does look adventurous - am glad you guys gave it a chance and had a good time. We have an ADR at this place which we are keeping but I have not read many great reviews :)

Very good memory to remember the mental note about the Pearl Harbor music.:thumbsup2 I don't think I could remember a mental note about music for that long without writing it down.:confused3

I love the orange smell, it makes me feel right at home.;)

so crazy and awkward about that random stranger:confused:. What happened to keep your hands to yourself, I'm sure everyone learned that in kindergarten.

That's awesome that John speaks French.:thumbsup2 I'm trying to become fluent in Spanish but it's not working that well.

I took a picture in front of that tree of poinsettias, it was so pretty.

Yay!:dance3: for seeing Remy!!!

I'm sorry to hear you weren't thrilled with Chefs! Miguel is not an adventurous eater, either, so I'm a little worried he might not be too impressed. Remy looks cute, though! :goodvibes

I always want to try Chef's, and it always ends up getting cut from my ADR list! I'm afraid I'm not adventurous enough for it either! :rotfl: Although that sandwich looks pretty good! And Remy is so cute! :lovestruc

We had Les Chefs De France as one of our ADRs for our trip at the end of the month but ended up cutting it. The ham and cheese sandwhich looked really good! I also love french onion soup and I am sure theirs is really good. Maybe next time I will be brave and keep the ADR.

We waited a while for our ADR at Les Chefs too.

We loved it, but we went for dinner and ordered different things than you.

:lmao: Being "not adventurous enough" is exactly why I'm not going to Chefs de France anytime soon :rotfl: I'm happy with a cheeseburger and fries, or pot roast, or chicken :) But it looks like you guys had a good time regardless! :)

John and I are the same way. We're pretty satisfied with the classic comfort foods! :goodvibes It was still a fun experience, though!

I just found your trip report and I am really enjoying it. We were at Disney for Xmas 09 and are going back for Xmas 11 an also doing WWOHP. As we are all adults (all of our kids are college age) I like reaing trip reports from other adult only trips.

:welcome: Thanks for joining in! I love to read adults only TRs too! That is so cool that you are going this Christmas!

I was definitely not prepared for the cold on this trip! I am looking forward to going in the summer this time!

 at waiting for soo long!

Yay at seeing Remy! The food sure does look adventurous - am glad you guys gave it a chance and had a good time. We have an ADR at this place which we are keeping but I have not read many great reviews :)

Remy was so cute! The food was fun to try, but I don't think we will go back. It was a good experience though, so I think you will enjoy it! :)

Yay!:dance3: for seeing Remy!!!

I have no clue why I remembered that! It just stuck with me!

I love that orange smell so much. It's so realistic! :lovestruc

Seriously! I think this person was absent that day in kindergarten!

I am so horrible with speaking other languages. I took Spanish for four years in college and I don't remember anything!

I'm sorry to hear you weren't thrilled with Chefs! Miguel is not an adventurous eater, either, so I'm a little worried he might not be too impressed. Remy looks cute, though! :goodvibes

It was still a fun experience, even though we didn't love the food. I don't think we will go back, though! I hope Miguel likes it! :)

The sandwich was pretty good, but it was also the tamest thing on the menu! :rotfl: Remy was adorable though!

We had Les Chefs De France as one of our ADRs for our trip at the end of the month but ended up cutting it. The ham and cheese sandwhich looked really good! I also love french onion soup and I am sure theirs is really good. Maybe next time I will be brave and keep the ADR.

The sandwich was really good and I'm sure their French onion soup is great! Hopefully you will get to try it someday! :)

We waited a while for our ADR at Les Chefs too.

We loved it, but we went for dinner and ordered different things than you.

I guess it's just one of those restaurants that takes a little more time!

I think we might have liked dinner there better. The menu was much more appetizing for dinner!

After we finished our French cuisine we continued our journey through the World Showcase! Our next stop was a country that I feel is often overlooked: Morocco!

100_0065.jpg

I always love to visit Morocco because it is just so beautiful. I always feel like I have stepped out of reality and straight into the movie Aladdin! :goodvibes

100_0066.jpg

We wandered around a little bit admiring all of the beautiful colors while John hummed his favorite Aladdin tune and the namesake to my TR! :rotfl:

100_0067.jpg

We stopped in a gift shop to admire the beautiful merchandise. We spent a while looking at the gorgeous rugs.

100_0068.jpg

John told me that when he was stationed in Iraq there was rugs like these for sale everywhere and they were really cheap. I would love to have a rug like this in my home someday, but if it means he has to go back to Iraq to get it I say NO THANK YOU! :sad2:

I tried to get a picture of the Morocco holiday traditions plaque but it was too crowded to get a good one because the speaker was about to come out.

100_0069.jpg

A man came out just a few minutes later and started talking about Muslim traditions. We listened for a few minutes then moved on.

100_0070.jpg

After Morocco we headed to my second favorite part of the WS after France…Japan! :lovestruc

100_0071.jpg

I immediately spotted the Japan Christmas plaque along with a really adorable lady talking to the crowd about Japanese traditions.

100_0072.jpg

100_0073.jpg

It was really interesting, but like in France and Morocco we only listened for a few minutes before moving on.

We wandered around Japan a little, but I only ended up taking one other picture.

100_0074.jpg

I only took one other picture because I had something else on my mind, something I had never tried before: Pick-a-Pearl! :yay: I had gone through all of my past Disney trips never even knowing about Pick-a-Pearl until I read the other Joni’s (shelbys_mommy) TR. Once I saw it I knew I had to try it!

We got to the PAP area and watched a few people getting their pearls. It took me a minute to realize you had to sign up and get a number. I got my number and waited anxiously while the people in front of me got their pearls. I was really hoping to get twin pearls like shelbys_mommy got on her trip!

100_0075.jpg

I think there was only two people in front of me, so I didn’t have to wait very long. When it was my turn John video taped the entire thing!

My Pick-a-Pearl Experience!

It was really fun to do, even though I was a little nervous because so many people were watching me! I didn't get twins, but I did get a beautiful 7mm pearl! I considered buying a setting for it but I didn’t see anything I liked so I decided to just take my pearl home with me and buy a setting later.

I wonder, does every oyster have a pearl in it, or do they just assume they all have them? What if they don't? Do you get to pick another? :confused3

Here I am looking absolutely horrible with my pearl:

100_0077.jpg

Now, let me explain the picture. Right before I did PAP I started feeling really really sick. My medicine must have worn off and I felt worse than I had felt the entire trip. My head was hurting, my throat was sore, and my entire body was aching. I still enjoyed the PAP experience, but as you can see by the picture I wasn’t feeling well at all.

We decided to move out of Japan and into the next country. On our way out I saw some people playing these big drums and I snapped a quick picture!

100_0078.jpg

Up Next: My cold finally gets the best of me! Which plans did it really mess up? Stay tuned to find out!

The Morocco pavilion is GORGEOUS.

I love exploring WS. It's my mom's favorite thing to do, so we always spend a lot of time there. I love it!

I love your pick a pearl video! I didn't know there was so much to it - I just thought you picked your oyster, they opened it up, and that was it! :lmao:

Oh no! I hate to hear that the cold was catching up to you! I hope your plans were only messed up momentarily!

I love the pictures from Morocco! I can't wait to explore the country myself. Lol at John humming the Aladdin tune! :rotfl:

Them rugs look lovely. I hope you manage to get one without DH going back to Iraq.

Yay on picking a pearl! The video looks great and I love the Mickey and Minnie t shirt! :thumbsup2

Oh no - am sorry to hear that you started feeling really bad. Hope it didn't impact on your trip plans in a great way :wizard:

Morocco is one of my favorite pavilions in the WS. It's so pretty.

I loved your pick-a-pearl video! It looked like such a neat experience. The pearl ladies are always so hyper and outgoing.
