One question regarding non-DVC vacationing

First of all, thank you for this board. I eliminated about 50 questions I started off with by reading through various postings. So to other first time users, READ THE POSTINGS, then ask any questions you might still have left over.

So here's the ONE question I do have. It's obvious that if you intend to use non-DVC resorts, the value is not there. DVC is for people who intend to use Disney as their primary vacation. That does not describe how my wife and I would have intended to use the membership, so it's obvious this membership is not for us.

So can anyone recommend another vacation club (or whatever) that caters to that? We are interested in a network we can buy into that DOES provide value when staying at various locations around the world. Does such a vacation club exist? I've tried Googling, but am too inexperienced to know what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

I second the recommendation for TUG. Also, TS4M: www.timeshareforums.com

I think most people considering a non-Disney timeshare would be well-served with one of the other point-based mini-systems. The bigger ones available resale include Wyndham, WorldMark, and Bluegreen. You'll want to look at their stable of resorts (look for "club resorts", not affiliate/associate ones) to see if they provide enough to interest you.

We know folks that own either Marriott or Hyatt and both have advantages and disadvantages compared to DVC. I've spent some time researching both of those and a few others, and have come to the conclusion that Marriott has the most worldwide properties directly in their program, as opposed to all of the others that rely on trades like we do. You still own one property in Marriott, but you have first preference when it comes to getting into other Marriott properties. Others may have learned more, and the sites that others have posted to research have good info. I'd also add redweek.com to those other sites as well. Good luck.
