We just got back from a 2 week FL vacation; cruise (7 day), Disney Vero Beach (3 nights) and BLT (3 nights).

We are not fans of Disney food and although we never had the food at Vero, it was quite expensive, so we didn't even try it.

We had Disney rewards card valued at around $23.50.

Out of that came breakfast at Roaring Fork (waffles for him, coffee for me), some other food item (can't remember what it was), a toy car for my neighbor's son who took care of our cat and the final purchase, a Mickey head Rice Krispie treat for the same child (we also gave him hard cold cash).

The last purchase required one penny to use up the card. Anyone ever get away with just spending one penny at Disney?:goodvibes

PS We did buy groceries (at Publix) and I happily cooked.;)

Muush - the beauty of GIFT CARDS!

Just add up the pennies left over on gift cards that eventually get absorbed into the Banking System! It is an accountants dreams of legal skimming - WHOLE PENNIES; rather than the decimals they used to skim.

So small for us - so important for the banking industry!$! Why do you think they push giving "Gift Cards" rather than the "Hard Cold Cash" to the child taking care of your cat!

We always buy something that combines the Gift Card and requires additional cash. I hate it when forced to add to others' retirement. :sad2:

Muush - on another note:

We were once denied the use of a Disney Gift Card at the VWL. When the CM swiped it for use, the approval system came back stating that they were not an approved Disney site. It did eventually get straightened out, with a bonus added to the card for our trouble, but you just have to shake your head at automated approval systems.

Hi DDad

I'm glad we didn't have that problem at WL!

This was actually a rewards card for the Disney Visa. I used to have lots of $$ on them, but since we get great rewards from AMEX, we rarely use the Visa.

I am not a fan of gift cards. I know that they make tons of $$ for the provider of the cards.
