One of the worst weeks of my life! (long) NO DISNEY, NO CAR, I WAS SCAMMED!

I'm so sorry this happened. Nobody ever wants to be played for a fool, and this situation cuts very, very deep. I just want to tell you you aren't alone. Everyone has been "had" before to one degree or another wether they had a friend or family member lie to them or they've had a complete stranger scam them. I hope you find some justice somewhere.

So true. I hope the FBI can force the receiving bank to give up all documentation on this account, and that the crooks left a trail.

Thank you everyone for the kind words, prayers, and hugs. It does my heart good to know that there are still nice people in the world and not everyone is EVIL, even though sometimes it feels like it. I know that in the long run, we will be okay, but it's just really hard to see that right now.
As far as contacting the media, between my DH really wanting to keep this under wraps locally, and the fact that I live in a really, really, small town, I don't think that it would do much good. The local station does scam warnings on the elderly in the area being taken by "traveling home repair people", every now and then, but on larger scale things such as internet fraud, I have never seen them cover anything like that. We will keep it in mind though.
I did contact Craig's list and ask them to take down the ad, but as of today it is still up, I just hope no one else falls for it.
And as far as the FBI, believe me, they will come to know me on a first name basis, even if it is "OH, NO, :scared:here is ANOTHER email from the chick with the fake car!" Like I said I don't think that I'll ever see the money again, but I can't help but try.
Thank you again everyone. :grouphug: You all are the best!

Opinions vary on Dave Ramsey around here but one thing he says is 'So you've done something stupid with money? Congratulations, that means you are over the age of 12."
.

Love that! All people make mistakes at one time or another..:)

Wow!! That sounds horrible. I'm sorry you had to go through something like this. I hope everything works out soon!:sad1:

I'm very sorry about your situation :sad2:

I feel your pain. My husband has been waiting for money from a job that he worked on over a year ago. Well over $20k, from an insurance company...he redid a whole house that was flooded in England. We have spent a lot of our savings trying to pay for all of the stuff we needed to get him here. We spent tons of money on a lawyer and it costs a lot to go through the green card stuff so we could get married. Also, until the green card came through we could only rely on my income which supported 4 people so our savings took a hit there.

We finally got to the bottom of the money situation. We really needed that money because I'm 9 months pregnant and we need a place to live and don't have anyplace, so we wanted to buy a little place with the money. We found out that my husbands business partner and 'friend' of years stole all of the money my husband was owed...and probably more. Probably in the ball park of $30k-40k when all is said and done. First we found out he lied about the sum of money owed, then he cashed the check in his name (he shouldn't have been able to do that, it should have been in the businesses name) and took the whole amount of money.

There is nothing left and not much we can do about it. We tried to file something with the police and they don't really do much, and it's hard to do from over here (his ex-partner lives in Scotland) I understand your heartbreak, you don't expect people to be scumbags and take your money, because it's not something you would do. It just makes you lose faith in all people.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

I have a friend who lost her house to scammers. She thought she was refinancing, but after everything was signed, she found out she had been tricked and had basically given her house away! She was a widow who never had to deal with things like this before because her DH had always taken care of these things. She had good equity in her home and was trying to lower her mortgage payment since she was living on just income now. She lost $120,000 in equity, and lost her home. She had to move out and had to rent a house.
A few months after she moved into the house, a pipe burst downstairs while she was sleeping. When she woke up, she opened her bedroom door to a gush of water! The water had reached up the upstairs and the entire downstairs was flooded!!! She lost so many things that she had bought with her DH including cherished wedding photos that could not be replaced. My heart just broke for her. First she lost her DH, then her house, and then her cherished items. No renters insurance, either.

So you are right -- this is horrible, but it could be worse. You still have your family, your children and a roof over your head. You will get through this. I'm so sorry!

This really makes me mad about your friend.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm sorry to hear about what you and your family are being forced to endure. I don't know why law enforcement doesn't crack down on these people, instead of allowing them to walk away and go on to the next victim.
It's bad enough when something like this happens, but to find out that it's near impossible to get help when it does happen, is even worse.
I hope everything works out with you and your family. :flower3:

There are just so many internet scammers.

:sad1:

Keeping you and yours in my prayers. I am so sorry this happened to you.

I'm very sorry. I can only hope that somehow you're able to be blessed if you endure the trial well.

I think that each of us when we're on different local forums where cars are sold, and we recognize scams, should take the 3 minutes to alert the webmasters.

We know they're aware of the scams, but they could probably do a better job than they currently do.

this really sucks.

so sorry this happened to you.

guess craig list can't help you.

it is so hard to control the internet - that is part of the problem.

so sorry!

:grouphug::flower3: and Pixie Dust for you and your family :tink: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~:wizard:

I am not sure why the law doesn't seem to care, but it's very frustrating. I really hope you can find a way to turn it all around and get another Disney trip in the works. I know there are more important things in life, but I know how disappointing it is to work so hard for something and then life gets in the way.

We will be okay, it is hard to deal with but you just have to move on with as little bitterness as is possible. I do believe that people get what the deserve eventually. I figure that every setback is a way to make you a stronger person, and although I might sound like I have a good attitude...sometimes I don't, but you gotta try, right.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you can get your money back.

I don't think the law "doesn't care". I happen to be married to someone who works in money laundering. They care! But understand that the criminals are usually 1 step ahead. And if they are criminals, they have no problem using almost any illegal things to get away with their act. Like with the bank account, if they are committing a crime, chances are, they are also opening up any accounts in false names, using false social sec numbers. With that kind of false information, it's very hard for law enforcement to track them down. But they do work on it - every day!

OT- I saw you post this on another thread lately and it just makes me laugh because I read it as the opposite of what you mean. :)

No advice, just . I'm sorry this happened to you and right before Christmas. I like your husband's attitude, and I hope things work out!

I am so sorry for what you are going through. It really is terrible what people will do.
