We (me- 18, mom - 51, and step-dad - 54) traveled to the World last week. We love to eat and wanted to try a few places. Two weeks before our trip I was able to snag a Le Cellier dinner. My step-dad loves the France pavilion (even though we haven't convinced him of his love of WDW yet), so our other dinner was at Chefs de France. I have wanted to eat at the Coral Reef ever since seeing the episode of Boy Meets World when they go to WDW. Also, I really like aquariums. So, I came up with a plan to spend three nights in WDW, but only be on the DxDP for one night. We were able to do a continuing reservation where we didn't have to leave our room. We only had to pick up new keys the next day at the front desk.

The line-up:
Wednesday - arrival day
12:25pm - Coral Reef (I called while in St. Augustine to change our 12pm reservation to 12:25pm. We were still about 10 minutes late, but the restaurant wasn't full and there were no problems.)

6:50pm - Chefs de France

Thursday
Lunch - snack credits used at Main St. Bakery, Auntie Gravity's, and Plaza Ice Cream Parlor

OOP: Hamburger at Pecos Bills

5:45pm Le Cellier

I will admit that I am missing a few pictures, but mostly it's of items that you can find pictures of anywhere. I missed pictures of our snacks and Pecos Bills. Also, I'm missing pictures of our surprise walk-up meal at Boma (Friday) and our No Way Joses on Saturday (but I have previous pictures I have posted before if anyone is interested.) I do have pics of our other meals, though.

that's a great use of 1 day DxDDP! Can't wait to read your reviews and what you thought of both the plan and the restaurants.

Lunch at Coral Reef was great! We had a great view of the aquarium. We were on the first tier, but sitting in a booth a row back from the tank. We could easily see three of the tank sections instead of the one had we been right next to the tank.

Our server was Holli. She was great! She quickly brought us water as we were incredibly thirsty and kept the water glasses refilled.

My mom and I ordered the Mega-berry smoothie. It was very good and refreshing. The strawberry on the side was fabulous! I believe this smoothie is worth the price of $4.29 if paying OOP.

I guess I don't have a picture of step-dad's virgin strawberry daiquiri. I tasted it and it was good, but I preferred my smoothie. Also, the daiquiri was much smaller than my smoothie and it was close to the same price. ($3.99 maybe?)

The three of us decided to split the appetizer for two and the shrimp and lobster cakes. The appetizer for two came with samples of the sea and land - 2 pieces of steak with barbeque sauce on polenta and 2 shrimp on a cucumber relish, 2 sea scallops on mushrooms, and 2 little cups of lobster bisque.

Appetizer for two
DSC02344.jpg

The star of this dish (and of Coral Reef) was definitely the lobster bisque. I would order this any time I may go to Coral Reef in the future. The beef was a little fatty. The polenta and shrimp didn't have a lot of flavor. The cucumber relish tasted a lot like cut up pickles. The scallops and mushrooms were very good, but definitely not the best scallops I have had.

Shrimp and Lobster cakes
DSC02345.jpg

I didn't care for them, but my parents seemed to like them. I thought they had an odd flavor.

Lobster ravioli
DSC02348.jpg

My step-dad and I had the lobster ravioli. I was expecting lobster in the ravioli, but it just tasted like cheese inside. I really enjoyed the dish, but my step-dad didn't like it. It was a little salty with all the olives and capers, but I really enjoy those ingredients. Most of my lobster chunks were a little tough and I didn't finish the claw meat because of its toughness. The ravioli was very good. However, it was just cheese filled ravioli. Also, I enjoyed the cheese on top.

Grilled Mahi-Mahi
DSC02346.jpg

My mom enjoyed this dish. The mahi was cooked perfectly and had a good flavor. I thought the rice just tasted like regular white rice. I could definitely taste the coconut in the sauce, and I can't stand coconut, so I can't give a good opinion of it. However, my mom really enjoyed the rice and the coconut beurre blanc sauce. She said she would definitely order her dish again.

Chocolate Wave
DSC02349.jpg

We all had the chocolate wave for dessert. This was very good! We all cleared our plates. I really wish it came with ice cream though. However, the raspberries and whipped cream tasted very fresh. I'm not really sure why the raspberries were on the plate. I ate them because they are good for you, but they don't add anything to the dish.

Overall, Coral Reef was a great place for lunch out of the heat. I really enjoyed the experience even though the only food highlight was the lobster bisque. Our entrées were good, but nothing really special. That also goes for the chocolate wave. I would rather save room for a No Way Jose which is the same price and can do me for a meal (or two).

Ooooooh! Coral Reef looks really yummy! I can't wait for the rest

First of all, thanks everyone and thanks for reading. I appreciate all of your comments.

Usually, we eat dinner early, but because we were having a 3 course meal at Coral Reef, our France ADR was not until 6:50pm. This is our second time eating here. We requested a window table in the front room because we knew we would probably be staying through Illuminations. At first, they sat us at a table beside the window in the room farther back in France. My mom asked to move to the front room as we had requested and told the hostess we were willing to wait. There ended up being a table ready right then! It was a perfect spot for people watching. Also, we noticed it was starting to rain a little and we were glad to be inside.

Our server was good, not great. We went long periods of time without water. I drink a lot of water (especially after walking around the parks for several hours), so that always bugs me. Also, I could see him standing off to the side in what became a near-empty restaurant and still he didn't come to refill our glasses.

Anyway... on to the food!

French Onion Soup
DSC02365.jpg

My step-dad ordered this, and I tasted it. I thought the broth and cheese were very good (I don't like onions). He really enjoyed it, and my mom thought it tasted great, too!

Goat cheese salad
DSC02366.jpg

The salad really needed more dressing, but it wasn't bad. I ate most of it just because I needed the greens. I believe my mom finished hers for the same reason. However, neither of us ate the large yellow leave. I'm not sure what they were, but they were very bitter. The goat cheese was delicious! I would have been happy if they had just given me the piece of cheese.

Duck
DSC02367.jpg

My step-dad ordered this. He liked it, but he wouldn't order it again. I tasted a piece of the breast and thought it was good, but nothing special. He didn't eat much of the leg confit. He and my mom both really liked the sweet potatoes.

Scallops, shrimp, and mahi mahi
DSC02368.jpg

I was very glad to find that the black pearl rice had been added back to this dish. The whole dish is very good. I love the texture and flavor of the rice. The black pearls have a nice crunch to them. The seafood was perfectly cooked. I especially enjoyed the mahi and scallops. Only complaints - this dish cools off quickly, and I didn't care for the green sauce on top, but all I had to do was scrape it off.

Profiteroles
DSC02372.jpg

My mom really enjoyed these. I'm not a big fan of the chocolate they use on this dish or the puff pastry. The ice cream is very good, though.

Chocolate-orange cake with coconut ice cream
DSC02371.jpg

I had to convince my step-dad that he loved the other incarnation of this dish last year. (It used to not have the orange and came with bananas on the side.) He really enjoyed this dessert.

Apple crepe with ice cream
DSC02370.jpg

This tasted like a fresh baked apple pie (which I love!). The apples and crepe were perfectly cooked and the entire dish had a lot of flavor. The ice cream was very good and went well with the crepe. I really liked this and would definitely order it again on the DDP. However, the same comment I made about the chocolate wave applies to these desserts. No Way Jose are the same price and about 5 times larger.

B&B after dinner drink
DSC02374.jpg

Step-dad likes this. Obviously, I didn't taste it.

I had a cappuccino for after dinner. It was good. I liked the little rolled-up cookie that came with it. Step-dad had coffee. He didn't comment. Mom had iced tea which she sweetened with Splenda.

We did enjoy Illuminations from our seat. I wouldn't recommend France as an ideal location for the show, but for someone who has seen the show before, it was nice to enjoy it from inside. We could hear the music at some points, but mostly we could just see the fireworks.

Overall, I enjoyed Chefs de France. It was a very nice meal. The food is very good and it's a great value on either dining plan. My mom and I are returning in August for free dining, and we will order the same entrées, and I know I will order the apple crepe (she will probably order the Profiteroles again). If ever on the DxDP again, I would choose a different starter. Chefs de France was been great both times I have dined there, and we will continue to return if on a dining plan.

Yummy so far - Love Coral Reef!

Goat cheese salad

Those yellow leaves are endive. I don't like them much either.

Again, thanks for reading!!

We had an ADR for Wednesday at 11:30am, but didn't want to have to leave our house so early to make it (we live almost 8 hours away). I kept checking the online ADR system, and I was able to book a dinner for 5:45pm!! I was so excited!! I changed all our other dining reservations with no problems to accommodate the Le Cellier reservation. I couldn't believe all the openings just 2 weeks before our trip.

At first, I was concerned when we were led to a table in the back corner of the restaurant. However, it ended up being great. I could only see the two other parties sitting back there with us and one party left within a few minutes. This made for a secluded and quiet meal.

Our server was fine. She was very slow to refill our glasses. After she delivered dessert, she never brought any more water.

Unfortunately, I only have pictures of desserts here. We were so excited upon receiving our steaks that I didn't think about pictures until we had taken several bites. I really wish I had pictures of the appetizers to share since those aren't posted very often.

We decided to share the duck three ways and the appetizer for two which included samplings of the cheddar cheese soup, the lump crab and corn custards, and the tomato stack.

The duck three ways (Confit, Rillette, and Fleischnecke) was an okay dish. I wouldn't recommend it. We ordered it because we thought my step-dad would want to eat a good bit of it. However, he didn't touch it. I'm not sure which type of duck was which except that the leg was confit. I didn't care much for the leg. One of the ways tasted similar to a potsticker, and it was pretty good. I honestly don't remember much about the other type.

I wish we had ordered the bowl of cheddar cheese soup. We almost ordered one out of pocket to dip our pretzel bread in, but refrained. I wish the samples had been bigger of the soup, because it was wonderful!

The lump crab and corn custards was good, but had a VERY spicy aftertaste. I believe it was paprika. I could only eat one bite at a time.

I don't care for tomatoes, but I believe my parents thought the tomato stack was pretty good. I did like the salad and cheese on and around it though.

We all had the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon. My mom and I had it with the fabulous cream cheese mashed potatoes. (Thank you DISboards for the recommendation!) I much preferred the potatoes over the risotto. The bite of my step-dad's risotto didn't taste like much of anything to me. His steak was overcooked, but he didn't send it back because it was still very tender. I asked for a thin line of pink. I never saw any pink, but I didn't care since I usually order the thin line of pink just so the steak will be juicy. However, the steak was juicy, flavorful, and fabulous!! It was definitely the best steak I have ever had. I'm not a big red meat eater, mostly because restaurants can't cook a steak the way I like it, and I can't stand fat on my meat. This steak was perfectly cooked and had no fat, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Only complaint - I wish the steak was served beside the potatoes instead of on them. I moved the steak to the side so I could cut it without getting potatoes all over it. However, this is difficult because of the shape of the plate. It's more like a bowl and there isn't enough room for the steak beside the potatoes.

One warning - My mom is allergic to mushrooms. We thought that with her not having the risotto, there would be no mushrooms. However, they are still served on top of the steak. She was able to remove them with no problem, but I thought I would give this warning in case someone reading this has a serious allergy where the food they are allergic to can't even touch what they are eating. The mushrooms were delicious to me, though!

My mom asked for more pretzel bread to be brought to the table. She thought I wanted more, but I only wanted more if we were going to order more soup. We ate one piece and asked for something to wrap the other two in, so we could take them with us. The server ended up bringing us three new breadsticks wrapped up and ready to go. That was very nice of her, but I hope the other two weren't thrown away. I hate wasting food, and we really didn't need the new breadsticks. But, they have been nice to reheat in the toaster oven at 400 degrees for about 7 minutes. They still taste great when reheated that way. BTW - the sourdough and multigrain breadsticks in our first basket were good, but the pretzel bread is so much better.

Dessert - My step-dad and mom had the chocolate whiskey cake.
I ate a portion of my step-dad's piece as he couldn't finish it. I thought it was good, but the alcohol flavor is strong. I preferred eating the icing over eating the cake. My mom really liked it as she finished hers and ate some of my step-dad's. She usually doesn't eat chocolate cake, so I know she had to like it.
DSC02389.jpg

I had the chocolate moose mousse. I thought it was great!! I also liked the cookie antlers and tongue. I preferred the taste of my mousse to the whiskey cake's icing.
DSC02388.jpg

For drinks - step-dad had a virgin pina colada that he really enjoyed. Mom and I had vanilla shakes to go. I thought they had a good flavor even though they were a little icy. My mom didn't care for it, so I drank hers too. Unfortunately, I ended up being VERY full and VERY cold for quite some time, but I didn't want the shake to go to waste.

We have definite plans of returning to Le Cellier and the steak lived up to it's hype.

One more thing I want to mention. It rained some in Epcot before our reservation. The rain really wasn't that bad, but the park cleared out, and Le Cellier was half empty when we arrived and when we left. I saw a couple of people who were able to get in as walk-ups when the restaurant was booked solid for days. Kept this in mind if you want to get into a restaurant on a rainy day. This is the same for Boma. The next day, we escaped a very scary looking storm in the Animal Kingdom. We decided to hop on a bus to AKL and sit around, refill our mugs, and wait out the storm. Step-dad decided he wanted to eat at Boma. We were told the only time available was a possible walk-up at 4:30. I called the ADR line just in case to see if we could get in later as we weren't hungry at the time. They said there was no availability. The hostess told me to come back at 5pm if we wanted to eat a little later. When I returned at 5, she asked if we could be seated then as we could definitely get in. Boma was half empty. They were fully booked, but no one was showing up. It remained half empty the over 2 hours we were there. Mini review - Boma was fabulous as always!! I believe this could have been the best meal out of the 6 times I've eaten there. Favorites - crab soup, salmon, couscous, and zebra domes. Everything else is very, very good with honorable mentions going to the falafels and bobotie.

On Thursday, my step-dad had a burger from Pecos Bills. I had a couple of bites and it was the best burger I have had there. He really enjoyed it. My mom and I ate some of the fries and pickles from the toppings bar. Also, my step-dad and mom made a salad from the toppings bar. SD and I had mushrooms. Great deal for only $8.

I didn't care to have any other food for lunch because an hour later I was going to use our snack credits at the Main Street Bakery. I had the largest slice of carrot cake I have ever seen. The cream cheese icing was delicious and the entire cake was very good. I also had a frozen latte which was great! Step-dad had a very dense and chocolaty brownie. I mentioned that he could get ice cream from the parlor next door and he was very excited about that. He loves hand scooped ice cream. He had a double scoop of vanilla and strawberry and really liked it.

My mom wanted a hot fudge sundae from Auntie Gravity's which is always very good.

We had to use our final snack credit the next day before it expired. I ended choosing a pre-packaged chocolate and peanut butter cookie that I haven't had a chance to sample yet.

Analysis:

DxDP for 3 people for 1 night costs $219.84

Covered on the DxDP:

Mugs - $41.51
Snacks: Main St. Bakery - $11.90
Plaza ice cream - $3.93
Hot fudge sundae - $4.04
Cookie - $3.46

Coral Reef - $145.15
France - $158.64
Le Cellier - $181.57

Total - $550.20

Total savings on DxDP - $330.36

OOP tips - $85.81

As you can see, we made very good use of the DxDP with about 60% savings. We would definitely use the DxDP like this in the future. According to the literature, we were supposed to receive one breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner per night of stay. However, people need to know that those credits are not separated that way. The best use of the plan for one night is a lunch and two dinners. I do not believe we would use the plan for more than one night. Two nights would probably be our maximum and even then we would probably have to do a signature meal.

Also included in the package 30 minutes of arcade time which would have cost over $5, a Planet Hollywood voucher for $15 and a free gift, and a free round of mini golf for one person. None of these figures are included in analysis. We only used the arcade time. All you have to do is book a package for one night and you receive all of the features of the package.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for your review...we love Chefs de France. We have to try LeCellier but my husband is not a red meat eater but I want to try on our next trip.
Thanks again for sharing

Great reviews!

That's a neat idea to get the deluxe dining for 1 night. I could see me bookiing like one night at Pop w/DxDP and then the rest of my stay at a deluxe hotel. Great idea!
