For spring break we (me, dh, two teens) are planning to fly in to Orlando one night before our HRH stay begins, then arrive early at the hotel to leave our bags, get our keys and hit the park. We won't have a rental car. Any thoughts for an inexpensive hotel in the area? Ideally it would either have free transport from the airport, shuttle to Universal, or be within walking distance from HRH. This is our first trip to Universal, so we don't know anything about the area. Thanks!

i'm not sure what hotels have free shuttle from mco.
mears will provide a shuttle at $19 per adult/ $15 per child to almost all of the hotels.

i stay onsite but do read how many stay at the double tree, and those right next to it.
it's a decent walk to UO, could be 10-12 minutes counting crossing the blvd w/ traffic.

if you want a hotel that has free shuttle service, doing a google search would be my first thought.

check into hrh early morning so you can get your hotel keys.
you will need that for the early entrance and express lines.

hotel guests can enter ioa one hour before normal operational hours.
the potter section will be the only thing open for that first early hour.

Doubletree. You can walk or shuttle to Universal area from there. Taxi is like, $5. I don't think they have an airport shuttle - I'd suggest Mears for that.

Oh - yes - it's a 10-20 minute walk depending upon exactly where you want to go and how fast you walk - but don't worry about "traffic." There are stop lights and crosswalks at every corner on the walk.

We stayed at the Sheraton Studio City which is 1/2 a mile from US/IOA Main Gate. I got it on Hotwire for $53/night (limited my search to US/IOA area and a 3*).

The only hotels that I know of that have shuttles from the airport are the hotels near the airport. You'll need to either rent a car, take a taxi or take a shuttle.
