We have a week long trip in December rebooked from our Irma dissapointment. My mom lives in FL and was supposed to come and visit and spend time with her granddaughter who she hasn't seen save for when she was born almost three years ago! She was devastated when we had to cancel due to Irma (not to mention she nearly lost her house).

So I would like to surprise her and take her to the parks for one of our days. My goal would be to coordinate it so we could all have the same fast passes for the day. To do this I am thinking she will need a 1 night reservation. I am wondering if the check in day should be for the day we plan to go to parks together or if it shpuld be the ceck out day? Also, is the 20% fall duscount generally better than any FL resident discount? Can i book and manage both reservations?

Thanks in advance. I want to get this right!

You don't need to make a reservation for her. Simply buy her a 1-day ticket, set up an MDE account for her (if you want to surprise her, you don't need to use her e-mail address, just use a separate one you or your spouse may have. This is what I did when I brought my sister to WDW a few years ago - I made all the plans and she never even knew she had a MDE account), link the ticket and connect the accounts through Friends and Family. You will then be able to make her FP+ at 60 days along with your family.
