One night enough for us at the CR!

Forgive me for breaking in here, but over 33,000 posts?!? Is that the most on DISboards? Is anyone keeping track?

I believe Dan Murphy has a higher post count, but he doesn't post very often any more. Anne may top him before long. :goodvibes

You seem to be missing the entire point. The theme. The other resorts don't feel like a business hotel because they have a theme. I can stay at the Hilton at DTD for 1/4 the cost and get as nice, if not nicer of a room--with a fireworks view.
This is what I am trying to say. I think it's unfair to use the lack of theme and the fact the Contemporary hosts conventions as a reason to call it a business hotel just because of the way it looks. I understand the Grand Floridian, Boardwalk, Yacht Club and Coronado Springs Resorts have better themes, however they could also be called busniess hotels because they also have convention centers adjacent to them, despite how great their themes maybe. So that is the point I am trying to make.

There are several posters with a lot more posts that I have.

I'm sorry, but I think you are still missing the point. It really doesn't matter if the CR is a business hotel or not. It has that sterile feel that many of us experienced at certain business hotels. We don't like it. That doesn't mean that you can't. Obviously, many people do like it or it wouldn't stay booked. Don't take the criticism of the CR so personal.

Well said Peggy.

I would also add that the Contemporary is the only WDW convention resort which was built as a single structure originally; all of the other resorts with convention facilities are built in a more resort layout with multiple buildings spread over several acres (Yes, I realize that the Contemporary once had both North and South Garden wings, but the initial main structure was one building) The other resorts also 'hide' the parking areas whereas the view from many of the rooms of the Contemporary includes the very large parking lot.

Everyone has personal preferences. There is nothing wrong with people voicing their preferences here. I own at a few different DVC resorts, and have been heard to say that OKW is a dump. I OWN there and I still think that it is in serious need of renovation. Absolutely nothing wrong with me having an opinion, but I am not personally attached to OKW, either, even if I do have money invested there.

I agree that no one will like every WDW Resort, because other people are allowed to say what they think. I just find it frustrating when people mention the Contemporary as that busniness hotel, when other WDW Resorts could be considered that since they also have convention centers. Since that is my personal preference I am allowed to think that, so all I am doing is stating my opinion.

And Anne, Peggy and I have stated ours. So please let us voice our opinion as we have let you voice yours. You like the resort; we don't. There is nothing wrong with that.

Chacun à son goût

The CR does have a theme...

It is retro-modern. For me, it invokes the feel of Tomorrowland and is reminiscent what Walt was trying to capture with EPCOT.

Although I have visited the resort with each trip, I could never "stomach" staying there because of the horrible color schemes in the rooms...they were bad...really tacky...

I can honestly say I love the look of the new rooms and I am really looking forward to staying there! I truly hope I am not disappointed!

I like the cavernous feel and the monochromatic color scheme in the rooms.:confused3

As PP's have said...different strokes for different folks!

But people (Disney people) fall in love with a resort because it makes a connection with them
I love the Contemporary. Judge me if you must, but I usually well-up when I arrive and when I'm leaving

Amen to that!!! That's what LIFE is all about!!!

Hey there!
Just wanted to say you can all forget about trying to get "CR Resort Fan for life",(Jason) to understand. He is such a die hard fan of the Contemporary, and does not budge from his opinions. On the other hand, you all don't have to budge from yours either...LOL!

I totally understand your points about the business hotel feel. I own an online travel business and totally understand what your all trying to express. I travel extensively, and know what a business hotel is. And guess what, the CR is a business hotel. So are the other delux's at WDW. They all just have better "Disney" theming. SImply put.

Blessings,
Winnie

We ate at CM there, walked around some, looked around some, and wondered why everyone thought that it was such a cool place. The one poster as well as a lot of others I'm sure have the best point. It's what they remember as Disney from their childhood. Anything / Anyplace that you connect with so emotionally is a special place. And I'm glad it gives them those feelings.

I guess IMO, the CR being called Contemporary just doesnt 'do it' for me. It looks like a big white, sterile box, from about 30 years ago. Oh, wait a minute! It IS! I didnt get to go to all the resorts, but I checked out WL, Poly, GF, stayed at CSR, did drive bys on some of the others. Honestly, almost all of the others made me say 'wow, that's really cool looking, it would be nice to check that out. The CR, never once made me feel like somewhere I'd want to stay. Unless they hide it around some corner that I never turned, I just never 'got' the theming. Maybe that's what the future was supposed to be 30 years ago, but, it doesnt seem like it's worked out that way yet..

As others have said, hotel choices are a personal thing, some will like certain ones, and others wont. That's what makes the world go around.

And the convention hotel doesnt fly with me, as I didnt even really know it was one :). I'm at the CSR and it's about as un convention feeling as I think you can get.

DH and I have dined there a couple of times, but would never stay there.

I was a meeting planner for many years, and walking into the CR makes me feel like I'm working...don't need that on vacation!

And that's why there are 25 resorts at WDW. Everyone can have a favorite no matter what they like :goodvibes

No, we say that the Contemporary looks and feels like a generic, sterile mid-level business hotel, while the other WDW resorts look and feel like a resort hotel--even those that have business facilities. You just keeping missing the point. You are taking a pile of concrete too personally.

Agreed. It's Brutalist architecture in my opinion. I think the theme is "concrete and conventions". If the CR was located in Vegas, it would have been imploded over a decade ago. I'd rather stay at GF or Poly if I wanted to stay at an MK area Deluxe, or perhaps the new Contemporary villas depending on how they look once complete.

C Resort Fan, don't take my opinion personally. If you don't like my favorite resort, The Yacht Club, for whatever reason, it won't hurt my feelings! Just curious, what other Disney resorts have you stayed at in the past that makes the C Resort your favorite?

I agree. I have only stayed once at the Contemporary, but I would love to go back. To me it does feel contemporary, plus I love the shops and the hustle and bustle of the concourse.

The one resort that has left me cold is one raved about here. The Beach Club. To me, that hotel could have been anywhere on any beach, there was not much to let you know you were at Disney World. Yes, you can walk to Epcot and the Disney Hollywood Studios, but just try getting to MK or AK in a timely manner. Ain't gonna happen!

But if we all liked the same resort, we would be fighting for reservations. So I'm glad some of you don't like the Contemporary. That just means that the next time I want to book a room there, I will not have a problem getting it.:thumbsup2

I just returned from 4 nights at CR, my first stay since the big room renovation. My room was cozy, comfortable (the best hotel bed I've slept on in a long time), and had all the amenities I could want, and then some. It was great! I do think that CR will have a much more cohesive feel to it when all of the construction in the tower is complete (there was just a small section of the lobby left curtained off when I checked out this morning :thumbsup2 ).

CR has a minimalist feel to it. It's not supposed to be "in your face" Disney. It never was. That kind of architecture doesn't appeal to everyone, and that's OK. It does have an urban feel, that many people would associate with a city or a working environment. That may turn some people off - but to me, it's always felt like I was "where the action is". Although many people have been comparing it to other hotels around the country, keep in mind that many of the Disney resorts have counterparts in the "real world" with similar themeing and style. It's no accident that GF looks like Hotel del Coronado, or WL looks like the Old Faithful Inn. Personally, I'm glad they didn't think Contemporary meant something out of the Jetsons!

I don't really like AKL that much (it's one of my least favorite resorts of all categories combined). But a lot of people love it, and love the safari/African theme. It just doesn't do anything for me. That's what's so great about Disney having so many resorts - one of them is bound to be a good fit for anyone. I like WL, because it makes me feel miles away from Florida. I like CR because it makes me feel like I'm in the middle of things. I like POFQ because it feels like a small town and the detailing is great. I pick my resort based on how I want to feel, and the resort takes me there.

We are Disneyland veterans and went to WDW last year for the first time and I let people talk me out of staying at the CR. We ended up staying at the Poly. I liked the Poly, but it did not feel like Disney to me. It was beautiful, but it was not DISNEY.

We ended up going to breakfeast at CR and we loved the resort. It felt like I was at Disney. You have the monoril going right through the hotel, Chef Mickeys, and the pool is shaped like Mickey. The views of MK were wonderful. The store had a disney feel to it. It just spoke disney to me and that is why we are staying there this time and we are very excited about it.

fla4fun.....Glad you had a wonderful stay!!! I agree with you....those beds are amazingly comfy cozy!!!:thumbsup2

I loved reading this thread.
I was waiting for the knock down drag out :rotfl:
I agree with almost everyone. :hippie: Except don't take it all so seriously! I always thought I might stay at CR, until we walked through on our last visit and now that there is more construction. Growing up thought the monorail going through was cool:banana:
Themes are great, but the patronage is important to us also. We need a small break from little ones. And we are in the military, one would think we would stay at SOG. No, need a break from that and the place is kinda plain. So we are opting to pay big bucks for YC.:rolleyes1
Have fun!
