One night-Embassy Suites or Desert Inn?

I have to decide this asap! After we made our reservations for GCH, we decided to drive down a day early but will arrive late at night, really late, like midnight. This one night is just to sleep and get up and go check in at GCH in the morning. We have not stayed at either hotel before.

Right now, I have both hotels booked because I can't decide. Embassy Suites is $50 more than Desert Inn but you get hot breakfast. There are 5 of us so breakfast can add up but we'd be happy just going into the park and eating at the River Belle Terrace for around the same money. I also read the breakfast at ES is really crowded but the kids could go with dh and eat while I get showered and dressed to save time later in the park. Desert Inn has queen beds instead of doubles which we like more but bad parking and with a late arrival, this could be a big deal. It is also hard to pull out of the parking lot to get over to GCH in the morning and I read that the carpet is so dirty, your feet get black. Embassy Suites is nice but I don't want it to be so nice that they regret switching hotels to the GCH!

Also, I would like to leave the luggage in the car overnight but both locations seem to be unsafe to do that. True?

Any advice? Opinions? Have you stayed at both? Thanks in advance!

I LOVE Embassy Suites. I haven't stayed at the one in Anaheim, but have stayed at many others. The breakfast alone could make it worth it to you. Too bad you couldn't get their during the cocktail hour, you could get free drinks and snacks too :)

We like that ES a lot. The breakfast is crowded but its really good. They cook eggs/ omelettes to order. Thats actually the part thats crowded, you have to wait to have your stuff cooked. If you dont order eggs, then its really not that hard to get food.

Too bad you are getting in late, because you can see the fireworks if you get a high floor facing DL.

The lobby/atrium is really nice, they have a koi river/pond. They used to have small turtles there also with the koi, but we went in to walk around the lobby the other day because we were eating at Bucca de Beppo and we didnt see the turtles, but we didnt look that hard.

The rooms are nice and spacious with a separate living room area which is pretty standard for ES.

That said, we love ES but with you getting in so late and it costing $50 extra I don't really know if it would be worth it to you.

Have not stayed at ES in Anaheim, but the ones we have stayed at are always very nice. The breakfast is a plus.

Not sure I would be looking for anything but a bed in your situation. I might be tempted to stay in one of the Best Westerns 5 miles away that offers free breakfast for cheaper than both DI&S and ES, since you are sleeping only and will drive the following morining to GCH (something we are considering for our October trip).

Have stayed at DI&S before, nothing special. The rooms weren't dirty per se, but definately old and out dated. We liked the convenience of the walk to the park, but since that isn't an issue for you, I'd be looking for another room, IMO.

The Embassy suites are nice, and the breakfast is only crowded near when it ends, if you are planning to get up early to go to the park and get to the breakfast by 8 then it is not that bad, i just stayed at ES last month and it was great, and the breakfast was a great money saver each and every day:thumbsup2

We've stayed at Desert Inn several times, most recently last summer. We never found it to be dirty. The suite we had last year even had newish comforters and decorative pillows that were pretty nice. Parking can be tough there, especially at night. You might call ahead to see if they're sold out for that night and ask if parking is apt to be a problem. They have covered carports, an underground garage and some uncovered spaces. They also have a free breakfast but it's not anywhere near as nice as the one at Embassy Suites. However, it's so easy to walk to the parks from Desert Inn. I guess they both have pros and cons!
