One more TSA question, please

What happens to my mom who is in a wheelchair needing a TSA pat down while I'm going through the regular scanner if I'm the only one with her? I'll be placing backpacks down on the conveyor for inspection and some loose items, too. I'll be collecting everything when I'm done with my TSA scanning process. Then, I'm thinking I'll probably need to empty my backpack for some reason, too. I have so much in these two backpacks that I'm thinking I'll be required to have further inspection with them.

I'm concerned I'll be separated from my mom and I know she will be scared if that happens.

What do you do when you have to go through separate security procedures and you don't have a third party? Can she be with me until I'm done and then I take her in for her pat down? How does this exactly work?

As you can tell I'm still very nervous about the TSA security. I'm trying to avoid an extra trip to the airport to see how all this works.

Thanks again.

I always travel alone so I know what a mess it is trying to keep your belongings in view while going through that sit-down pat down required for wheelchair users. I think you'll do fine if you ask for private screenings and can have your stuff set aside and out of their way while they do it.

They'll really only check the carry-on contents if their X-ray machine picks up the presence of something unusual...like a gun, or something else prohibited. If you're planning on packing something questionable in the backpack, put it in your regular luggage instead. I only had an unpacking incident twice...Once for a large ceramic vase and once for my ECV emergency repair kit.

I needed a pat down after my scooter tested positive for residue. (Just had the scooter serviced, must have been cleaned with some chemical).

I just opted to have the pat down where they screen you. I didn't want to leave DD 11 by her self. It was very professional, and they did ask if I wanted a private pat down. It was just quicker for me to have it right then and there.

When we went through airport security with DMIL in a wheelchair we were never separated from her line of sight, so there was never any anxiety in that regard. Yes, the screening process is a hassle, but really no more so than when we're traveling without DMIL and her wheelchair. DH has aritificial knees and sets off the metal scanners every time. If he didn't set them off we'd know something was wrong with the equipment.

I will write more details tonight.
But, she should never be out of your sight.

Our experiences with TSA were far better than I ever imagined, they were very helpful to us in every way. I hope that helps you feel better about your trip.
