We are going to Disney in Oct 2014 we will have 2013 pts (they will be banked into 2014) and we will have 100 pts exactly. We were only going to stay 5 nights but decided that we would like to do 2 days at universal ( so instead of 5 it would be 7 ) also so instead of looking for a hotel we thought we would see if we can transfer pts into the acct so we would have enough to use. I guess my questions is for 1 week stay it's 211 pts ( I know they are this years point chart and prices ,so if they rise it will go up) does that mean I have to transfer 111 pts into the acct and can I use someone who has a Dec use year with BCV since that is our home resort if I wanted to book at the 11 month window?.

Sorry, thought about that while I was just driving.. It's Oct. Also if I were to transfer now or in the summer I would still bein my 2012 use year does that mean I would be able to transfer in my 2013 use year if need be

A word of warning, I have never had a transfer go smoothly. MS has put the points in the wrong UY, in the wrong contract, and using transfered points caused us to miss booking a stay in CL at AKV.

IMO, You really want to stay away from a Dec UY because you'd be using them at the end of the UY and if you had to cancel after July, you'd be out of banking window.

But, yes, you'd want to secure at least 111 points and if you want to use them at BCV at 11 months, they need to be BCV points. Everything is about when the points can be used, so you can pretty much get any 2013 UY points, except Dec, and bank them into the 2014 UY, so they will be good for your trip. You just want to have them before November when your 11 month window opens up.

In addition, you can look for 2014 points, except Dec, and then they won't need to be banked. If you can find Oct UY points, they would probably show up online too.

A little off topic but would help with the point issue......If you are going to Universal, staying at one of their hotels is the way to go. Their perks for staying on site are really 'worth it". You get early entry to Harry Potter and the ability to use their Express Pass (their version of a fast pass but in my humble opinion much better).

Yes, I love Disney and love DVC but I want any experience I have to be the very best it can be......

Wasn't thinking about the perks ..I might have to think about that now..LOL

If you are booking an Oct 2014 trip that would be in your Oct 2014 UY. You would need to transfer either 2013 or 2104 points to use for that trip. But not Dec 2014 points because you would have to borrow them. You cannot borrow transferred points. You can bank transferred points so you could transfer 2013 points and bank them (but don't bank Dec 2013 point because your trip would be in a Dec 2013 UY).

Universal is also opening a cheaper resort. I think it's called Cabana Bay. I think you don't get front of line access. We thought about staying for a couple days because its cheap and we will be close to the park.

We often stay a day or two before our after our trip at a universal hotel - if you have AAA they have a good rate usually - and we love the perks! We have stayed at all 3 hotels but usually stay at royal pacific because its cheapest! Definitely recommend onsite there!! And the front of the line access is good the day you check in and the day you check out !
