One More Disney Day

Anyone care to speculate what the big announcement will be regarding "One More Disney Day" in 2012? Do you think we in the DVC will be able to take advantage of it?

There's a thread on the theme parks board. One guess is the park (MK?) will be open for 24 hours on leap year day. Another guess is a day free on tickets or resort rooms. Most likely a package will have to be purchased so DVC points will not work.

Some Dis-ers seem to be convinced that the big announcement is the parks remaining open 24 hours for a Leap Year Day. While they may do something like that, there is no way they are going to all this hype for a one day/one time event.

As DebbieB mentioned I think it's highly likely it will be some sort of twist on packages where you can purchase a package where it's 5 days for the price of 4, 6 for the price of 5, etc. There might be more to it, but I think that will be the core of the promotion.

Not sure that any of this could benefit DVC members (many of whom are likely also AP holders).

I agree. Why on Earth would Disney do a promotion that only was for one day, and at the end of the second month of the year? Are they really going to start a promotion for an event that will be over 58 days later?

I agree that it sounds like it is a promotion where you buy a package and get to stay an extra day. I know we took advantage of the buy 4 stay 7 a couple of years ago before we bought DVC. I'm assuming more details will be announced on New Year's. I want to take my youngest for a trip this spring or fall, and don't want to use any points, so maybe I'll be able to take advantage of something....

I agree with this..they may do the 24 hour thing to kick off the campaign, but I'm guessing it's as this poster said..a deal where you get an extra day on a package or ticket purchase, so nothing for AP holders I'm guessing. Or they could do an add on..like PH for so many days gets a free meal or something like that, to entice people to stay another day.

I like to believe that they are adding a 5th theme park. Now, I would need to stay for 5 days not 4 to hit the parks or 7 days not 6 to hit parks plus water parks. I know that this isn't the announcement, but it would thrill me more then the rumor of 24 hours on Leap Day.

I'm of the opinion that Disney may never add another park. Epcot was added to MK as it was part of the original plan while Walt was still alive. Studios got built to ward-off the threat from the in-coming Universal park. AK likely was built to attract an audience that might choose the option of going to a zoo and to expand the time spent on Disney property. Same with the water parks. These parks were added as incentive to remain on Disney property as long as possible and to dominate tourist revenue in Central Florida. Seems to have been pretty effective. There is plenty of room for upgrades to the parks that exist at present without creating another gated attraction.

For dedicated Disneyphiles like us, I think the Saturday night announcement is going to be a big "whatever". :earsboy:

I agree that Disney will probably not add another park anytime soon. I look at the "average" vacation time of 1 week off from work. It doesn't make sense to have 7 or 8 or 9 days worth of parks if the average trip is 7 days.

However, I am 32 and before I die (which I hope to be a long time away) I wouldn't be surprised with another park coming before that day.

As I posted on another thread:
Here is my theory. It is a play on words. 2012 is leap year, thus giving us "One more Disney day". I think that Disneyland and Magic Kingdom will be open for 24 hours on 2/29. Well longer acctualy. It think both parks will open whenever they do on 2/29 and won't close till the evening on 3/1. That's my theory.

Now I do agree with most here that the 24 hour party is the launch of something else. To continue my play on words theory, everything after 2/29 is a "extra" day. So I think that 2/29 is the launch day for something, starting with the 24 hour openings.

I think they throw out a title for the promo ahead of time so they can read the DISboards to get the best ideas for what the promo should actually be! :rotfl:
