This is probably the most overlooked attraction at Disney ( it's at Disney/MGM Studios). We just happened in a few weeks ago and were so impressed we went back a few days later for the movie. If you are at all interested in how Disneyworld (and all the other Disney properties) came to be, please don't miss this. I walked out of this amazed at what geniuses Walt Disney and his brother truly were. Do yourself a favor and take a look (it's air conditioned and you can take your time going through). I think you'll be glad you did.

Have to say that we did in fact miss it in 2001. We went with another family and they thought it would be 'boring'. So when there was talk about shutting it down last winter I figured I had missed it. But it seems that Disney higher ups do listen to our email campaigns and they kept it going!! I am so thrilled to be able to see it in a week. Glad to hear you liked it so much. I know we will too!!

This attraction is SO GREAT, I think everyone who sets foot on Disney property should be required to see it! I'm afraid some dismiss it as being all boring reading, historical stuff, etc. It's so wonderful and really does provide awesome insight into Walt and his dreams. Of course, I would warn any Disney die-hards to bring some kleenex along...my jacket sleeves are always soaked by the end of the exhibit!:D That cartoon that ran in the New York Times the day after Walt died (with Mickey's teary face surperimposed onto the globe) was enough to do me in!:( Even so, this is a MUST-SEE!!

I have always wanted to see this but it seems we never "get around" to this attraction as its not on the kids "must do" list. BUT... this year its on moms "must do" list. Thank you for the heads up on the kleenex davandflav. Im sure I will need it as I become emotionaly unstable when it comes to disney !

Could someone please be so kind as to inform me where this magical place in MGM is? I don't have a park map to hand, but give me a local landmark that's nearby and I should be able to work out where you mean.

It is located on Mickey Avenue between Voyage of Little Mermaid and Who Wants to Be A Millionare.

Try hard to see it. It really shows what a genius Walt Disney was.

I haven't been there, but when I go, I'll go straight from the park entrance towards the giant Sorcerer Mickey hat, then bear off to the right past the Brown Derby restaurant and through the archway. It should then be straight ahead! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Edit: I think the previous poster may be right. If it is between Mermaid and Millionaire, there's an slight error in Birnbaum's Official Guide. :o

We skipped this on our first visit, but it was a must do on our second. DS9 is a real history buff and I thought seeing the story of the man responsible for the creation of this place that has brought us so much happiness would deepen his appreciation. I think it did.....for all of us. I had tears in my eyes throughout the whole thing! Now it's a must do for our next trip too!

Dr. Seuss was a genius, Walt is merely a master storyteller.

Dr Seuss scares the hell out of me, and as such, Walt will always be the genius in my mind!

The attraction is great. A couple of years ago I read the book by Boy Thomas on Walt Disney. It was a great read! Walt was an amazing person and I consider him a genius.

It's on our touring plan, I thought it sounded neat. Even my kids are looking forward to it. I've never read anything on the boards about it though. Thanks for posting!

This is an AWESOME attraction (and it seems a shame to call it an "attraction"). My DW and I found it (actually stumbled into it) on our last trip and were amazed by it. We were also surprised at how few people noticed it. It is not well-advertised, but it is an incredible journey through Walt's life and his heritage.

When you visit, make a point to talk to the CMs who are wandering through the exhibit. They can show you some neat "secrets" in several of the exhibits -- things like Hidden Mickeys and other things you wouldn't notice as a casual observer.

Don't miss the film either! By far this was the best part. It made me realize how incredible Walt really was.

We just got back this week and this was on my to do list, but we never made it. We were at MGM from opening to closing and still didnt have enough time to do it all. (could be because my dd8 discovered RnRC and TOT). I will definitely have to add this to my list for our next trip (if there is one). On another note though-I finally got to see COP and really enjoyed it.

Enjoy it while it lasts! It really should be permanent, but I think we only talked them into keeping it until early 2005. I hope I'm wrong...

The problems are:
(1) It was conceived as part of the 100 Years of Magic celebration, and was planned to end with the end of that celebration. As a result WDW seems have trouble seeing it as permanent.
(2) Many of the items originally in the exhibit room were borrowed from various collections external to WDW and have had to be returned as originally agreed. But even if the quality of the exhibits has decreased, the attraction as whole is still worth keeping.

We saw "One Man's Dream" last year. Originally we weren't going to go, but we figured that we've already seen and done everything else in the park several times over... that we should see it also. We're glad we did. The exhibits were really neat and the movie at the end was very good. It's well worth it!

Dh always said that he was the only person in the "World" addicted to the "Walt Disney Story", which used to be located just inside the gates at MK. The movie was discontinued when the area was converted to 100 yrs. celebration. So we were delighted to discover One Man's Dream & see it every time we're in MGM. There is a wonderful equivalent at DL, but I can't remember its name.

but definitely temporary. When you go to Disneyland, and you go into the expo hall with Mr Lincoln, there is Walt's formal office...the other one "informal" is now on display at OMD in MGM...I might have formal and informal "switched" but one of these is definitely missing at DL..and will return someday..so DON'T MISS OMD at MGM!

This is one of my (and my dh's) favorite things to do at wdw. The first time we went through it last year we spent over 3 hours there, looking at and reading everything. We also spent time talking with the cm's working. Some of them were incredibly knowledgeable about Walt and his life. Since then we have been back many more times. We truely hope that this exhibit does not end anytime soon. It is good that one thing at wdw shows you what walt disney was truely about.
