One Man's Dream closing

I talked for quite a while to one of the CM working there just 12 days ago. I asked him if he had heard whether the rumors are true that's its closing. He says "It sure seems likely considering the layout of Toy Story land has the entrance at the half-way point of this building". We then talked about what they were going to do with it, and he again said that really they had no knowledge of what was happening, "Cast Members are usually the last to know", but that they were of course hoping that it would be kept in the parks somewhere, one possible suggestion he made was innoventions - though again he didn't seem to "know" this. He actually said that Walt's Office was NOT shipped to the family museum in SF, but was crated off to somewhere else. (He told me where - but I can't remember what he said - a museum of some sort.) It was nice to talk to a CM that wasn't blowing smoke up my you-know-where.

So anyways, as of August 29th, the CMs had not been informed of it closing.

The other thing to point out is that One Man's Dream wraps around the Voyage of the Little Mermaid - so it seems to me that if they are intending to rip out one, they're likely to rip out the other.

A lot of the things in that exhibit have always been on display in one place or another. I'm sure that will continue.

Just read this thread.....! I sincerely hope they don't cancel this!!! I love One Man's Dream, it helps keep things in perspective. While the parks continue to change and evolve, OMD stays the same, and I love that. It would be a travesty to let this go.

Walt who? The dream has long disappeared. Three cheers for corporate America.

That's interesting. It probably went to the Disney archives or something. I do know the Disney family museum has been wanting the office tho.

I really hope that this stays somewhere in Disney World...not only is it a great way to cool down on a hot day, it is neat to have the history behind everything. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Boo! First The Magic of Disney Animation, and now this. I have never gotten to spend much time at either of these attractions since I always go with small children. I kept thinking that I could enjoy them when the kids get a little older. Might not happen.

This attraction was supposed to be temporary. Only for the 100 years celebration which brought the big blue sorcerer hat. The hat is now gone and likely so will be OMD. This is all part of the rebranding of DHS.

Even though it was meant to be temporary, I hope it isn't removed from WDW entirely. It is so neat to walk through and see all the historical items and in some cases, replicas. A nice place to get out of the weather and to go to when there is not enough time for much else before the next show or fastpass. It woudld be a shame not to have this open somewhere, along with the nice film at the end.

so sad. we're going to dhs for the first time in november. we were looking forward to seeing this.

Was this attraction similar to the roving display seen at museums? The Museum of Science and Industry here in Chicago had the display for six months or more, found it really interesting. Took both daughters to see the growth of Disney from Oswald to Mickey to movies.

No. That one you are talking about was done through the Disney archives.

I love this exhibit and the film is fantastic. We'll be there in 2.5 weeks, hope it doesn't close before we get to see it one more time.

It's important to note:

CMs know nothing... Never have of will...not likely to change. So look at the horses mouth for any "hint" of closure.

One mans dream was MEANT to be an 18 month exhibit for the "year of a million dreams"...which is what that type of thing should be in an expensive park...

But like festival of the lion king, millenium village, etc...they bleed these things too long.

I like the exhibit/theater...but it was always a bit of a placeholder... And we should expect placeholders to be completed.

All I can do is echo PPs here. I think it would be a shame to let this connection go. Even if they come up with a replacement rather than a transplant of this exhibit, I think it's so important to keep Walt Disney in Walt Disney World.

He was a part of my Sunday nights when I was a kid, he was the first person I "knew" to die, and I still feel that loss on a certain level. On our last trip, i walked my daughter through this exhibit, making sure she paid attention to the key points and delineating my personal connections for her, so he would be a part of her experience. It's essential that the corporation continue to provide families with that opportunity to keep the spark alive.

Agree. The fact that it was meant to be temporary doesn't really matter. He deserves to be recognized in the parks in a major way like this.
