One Man's Dream closing

Agree. The fact that it was meant to be temporary doesn't really matter. He deserves to be recognized in the parks in a major way like this.
I'd put a disclaimer on that. He deserves to be recognized in a major way, but that major way has got to be spectacular. The current iteration is alright, but not spectacular sadly. It could be so much more, but isn't. While I understand the sad emotions expressed about losing this history lesson, it was never as good as it should've been. I wonder if they'll revisit this again in a future attraction (unlikely) and with everything Imagineering has. That would be great.

... He actually said that Walt's Office was NOT shipped to the family museum in SF, but was crated off to somewhere else. (He told me where - but I can't remember what he said - a museum of some sort.) .....

I dearly hope you are wrong. Yes, the corporation has decided that OMD is not making money - but to send that office to anyone OTHER than the Disney Family is an outright crime. I'm hoping others have data on this issue.

Sandy and I went to the Family Museum in SF this year.... Synopsis? It makes (made) "One Man's Dream" look like an amateur show. Just an opinion - if you ever chose to understand Walt Disney, the man - go here.

It's important to note:

CMs know nothing... Never have of will...not likely to change. So look at the horses mouth for any "hint" of closure.

One mans dream was MEANT to be an 18 month exhibit for the "year of a million dreams"...which is what that type of thing should be in an expensive park...

But like festival of the lion king, millenium village, etc...they bleed these things too long.

I like the exhibit/theater...but it was always a bit of a placeholder... And we should expect placeholders to be completed.
I can see why FOTLK stayed in my opinion it's the best show on property.

If I'm not mistaken the mermaid show was also meant to be temporary but has been there since.

Well the office is definitely not on exhibits at DHS anymore that's for sure. I would've thought for sure it went to the Disney family. Hopefully it at least went to the archives.

To be clear...I agree. I have no problem with the exhibit...and I like that it's got the whole carousel of progress/early EPCOT kinda nostalgia vibe to it...

But...it's more the pattern that they take these "temp" things and extend them far too long. Remember the hat? Or the wand?

Disney mindset has been "well...we just built "____" a couple of years ago...so we really don't HAVE to throw money at that park.

When "____" is a temp...it's a double down. And yes... They do have to throw that money at it...or you end up with a stagnant, half closed park...

And that would never happen at Disney, would it?

Wouldn't the logical place for the office to go would be the Disney family museum at the presidio? Next to Lucasfilm?

That only makes sense

Just to be clear...the CM wasn't implying that Disney or the Disney family gave the office away. He was indicating that it was being loaned to another location, but that it wasn't the family museum. Has anyone seen it show up in San Francisco yet? It's been gone for almost two months now.

I talked for quite a while to one of the CM working there just 12 days ago. I asked him if he had heard whether the rumors are true that's its closing. He says "It sure seems likely considering the layout of Toy Story land has the entrance at the half-way point of this building". We then talked about what they were going to do with it, and he again said that really they had no knowledge of what was happening, "Cast Members are usually the last to know", but that they were of course hoping that it would be kept in the parks somewhere, one possible suggestion he made was innoventions - though again he didn't seem to "know" this. He actually said that Walt's Office was NOT shipped to the family museum in SF, but was crated off to somewhere else. (He told me where - but I can't remember what he said - a museum of some sort.) It was nice to talk to a CM that wasn't blowing smoke up my you-know-where.

So anyways, as of August 29th, the CMs had not been informed of it closing.

The other thing to point out is that One Man's Dream wraps around the Voyage of the Little Mermaid - so it seems to me that if they are intending to rip out one, they're likely to rip out the other.

I believe the off ice you are referring to was on display in the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago for awhIe. We visited then and there was a sign saying that it was on loan from the Disney Family Museum. This was probably about 1 year ago.

No the office has been in DHS since 2001. The office hasn't moved since until about two months ago like Pete said.

Amen. I remember hearing you were going a while back, and hoping you enjoyed it. I'm glad it lived up to expectations! It really just is fantastic. That's one of the reasons I honestly have issues with One Man's Dream. I think if Walt Disney the man went through that place which was primarily just typical museum displays, he'd be fine with it. (Disneyland was originally supposed to be part museum)

If he went through the family museum well built, well thought out, interactive, and sometimes even Magical (the elevator) that would make him proud. That is just a well thought out space.

To equate OMD to the hat or, even worse, the wand, is insane (although I mean that in the nicest way, of course). Even if all were originally considered to be temporary, you're comparing a legitimate attraction and history lesson to two eyesores.

As for FOTLK, that's probably in our top five things to do at WDW and one of the few things that we must absolutely do every time we're there. Never gets old to us, but I can appreciate that not every show appeals to every person. If they gutted Voyage of the Little Mermaid from DHS yesterday, it wouldn't be soon enough for me.

As for the Epcot feel of OMD, I absolutely agree with you on that. Given the current state of Future World in Epcot (in my mind, in worse shape now than DHS ever was), I would love for them to drop OMD somewhere over there. There's plenty of room for it and it would be very easy to move (relatively speaking).

When we were in HS, we really enjoyed the exhibit. We didn't stay for the movie, and were talking about a month ago about how we wish we would have. I'm sure the Toy Story stuff is going to be incredible, but it will a bit sad to lose the exhibit. Guess I'll just have to go to the family museum :)

This was one of our favorite places to visit over the last few years. My daughter (now 18) started going to MK when she was 3 and instantly fell in love with all things Disney. She's been a huge Walt Disney fan for years and I thought she'd found heaven when she first saw One Man's Dream. We made it one of the first things we did on each visit and saw the ending film too many times to count. I'm really going to miss seeing Walt's desk and that wonderful film.

Any guesses on the last day this exhibit will be open?

If I had to guess I'd say end of fiscal year for Disney which is September 26th. They've frequently chosen that date to shutter attractions.

Of course, If that is the case I would've thought an announcement would be made by now. Not that they will give a long lead on it closing, but I would've thought at least a few weeks. If not September 26th, then it's anybody's guess.

I recently heard January was the new closure time for OMD.

One Mans Dream is one of my fav attractions @ WDW, i sincerely hope that this finds a new home somewhere in WDW.
I think Pete suggested main street, and i'm hoping that's where it reappears.

Thanks for story... It's an enjoyable anecdote

On a similar path, my son got attached to figment and that horrible ride when he was 2... And after several years and probably 2 dozen rides...it's like old home.

Kids really change your view of things.

Unfortunately the current state of the ride is in direct contradiction with the feeling I got as I went on the original...
So it's like he knows how to stick the knife in my back... And twist it ;)
