One looong paragraph is a turn off!

It doesn't matter which board, but I think I find this more on the Resort board. They talk about their recent trip and share the whole story without breaking it down. :yo-yo: It's all in one looooooong paragraph! :bored: No breaks whatsoever as if the person is talking about just one thing and one thing only about their trip.

When I see that loooooooong paragraph, I just don't bother to read it. :bored: In my head, it's like reading a loooooong novel.. a very looooooong chapter with one looooooooong single paragraph.. like a looooong essay with just a loooong paragraph. :charac2:

Anyways.. I thought I'd share what somewhat that irks me. :)

I hate that too. I usually skip reading looooooooooooooooooooong paragraphs.

I hate it too and people get all huffy if you suggest they break it up a little.

ITA! Paragraphs are your friend. I also skip some posts because they are hard to read for one reason or another. My other pet peeves are ALL CAPS and wrting lk ur txt msging to ur pals.

Same here...!

And here's another little board irk for monday morning...

Why do people quote an entire post and then reply with a couple of words??? I mean, if we are posting on the thread we have already read the op and certainly don't need to have the entire thing copied for us.. :confused3

Just wondering...

Please tell me this.. and I have seen this a few times before. They quote someone without even adding their own thoughts to it, not even any smilies.. nothing! So what is the purpose of quoting someone and not say anything?

I'm clueless.. why is that? what does it mean?

I tend to skip posts that are one long paragraph. To be honest, I generally skim most posts the first time I look at them, and only read every word of posts that really interest me. I can't skim a post that has long paragraphs.

Also, I am DIS'ing at work, so I can't always read an entire post at one sitting. If there are paragraphs, I can go back and find my place easily if I get interrupted.

Keep it in mind! :sunny:

OMG, I almost started a thread about this after reading a few threads with very long paragraphs.

I usually end up skipping those posts.

I agree that paragraphs are our friends. There should be paragraph breaks even if the topic is the same and technically a paragraph isn't needed from a correct English standpoint (if that makes any sense :lmao: ). That's really my biggest beef and I can overlook a lot of other things.

When I quote a post I usually take out the part of the post that isn't relevant to what I'm responding to. Or at the very least (if doing tht wouldn't make sense), I bold what I'm responding to.

I don't know how someone can quote someone else and then not add any thoughts or smilies of their own. I thought that there is a minimum of letters/numbers (5?) that have to be in a post, not counting the quote. I know that I've tried to submit a post with 3 or maybe even 4 letters (with a quote) and it wouldn't submit due to being too short. Maybe it just knows that I'm wordier than that. :rotfl:

I am god at overlooking typos and spelling mistakes. The all caps bother me if it's a long post. But the long paragraph thing is the biggy (probably because I need reading glasses, so it's extra hard for me to read it...)

The quote counts towards the number of characters allowed.

GMTA! This bugs me too - it is far too difficult to read when there is just one long paragraph. Add CAPS LOCKS to the mix, and my eyes start bleeding!!!!

Oh, come on. You may be good at it, but calling yourself God... sheesh. :lmao:

Back to the subject - ITA! It's one of my biggest pet peeves on message boards and I see it on here more than any other board!

My brain can't follow one paragraph. Sorry. It must have breaks.

I refuse to read long posts that aren't broken up into paragraphs. I think the rules for paragraph breaks are different for an online environment than for print.

It's so hard to read things online anyway.... I think it helps to have a new paragraph every three sentences or so. Helps the eyes!

Lack of paragraphs and using all caps assure that I won't read. I think my eyes are too old to deal with it!

OMG, I am laughing so hard!!! Why can't the google spellcheck catch those errors! :rotfl2: You both owe me a new monitor!

I am with Fantasia... if I see a super long paragraph, I move on. Reading that is more like work than fun.

"The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 5 characters."

That's the message I get when I try to submit with only the quote. You can submit with only a quote? It won't let me do it with less than 5 characters.

Yep.. one loooong paragraph and all CAPS... well.. can you imagine not having any punctuations whatsoever.. all the thoughts are running over each other, so it's one whole big loooong sentence in one loooooog paragraph!
