I’m so over these folks. They run down Main Street during ETPE….to another rope then they run to 7 dwarfs.

Last Sunday no crowd control, so the adults just ran @ 8:30 and then again @ 9 over to Big Thunder.

FULL GROWN ADULTS.

RUNNING.

Poor kid lost his shoe and was nearly trampled.

Grow up, people.

I put A LOT of blame on Disney for this. Stop with multiple rope drops, just let ppl. scan in at the tapstyles and walk to their destination and let them wait in line there. Scanning produces a natural spreading out of crowds and then allowing ppl to wait in an actual line avoids ppls anxiety or the feel of a need to keep edging for position. We were at MK Fri. and had 3 freaking rope drops....it's ridiculous.

They've at least gone to doing the more positive opening procedures at DHS and allowing guests to go get in line at whatever their respective ride is and wait there. Soooo much calmer.

I agree. They trample old people too.

Ah, that takes me back to the old days when people got revved up for the "Space Mountain sprint." And it was pretty much the same--people of all ages waiting for that rope to be withdrawn. I was never a huge fan of SM myself (or of rope drop either, for that matter) so I never joined the madding crowd. Sounds like it has gotten worse if people are now coming that close to being trampled. Maybe enough feedback to Disney management will motivate them to put the screws on this.

a
Could be worse...could be Tokyo Disneyland:

See, I don't think this is worse; I think in terms of danger of being trampled it's better. Sure they're packed in line outside of the gate, but them needing to scan before being let in naturally spreads the crowds. Yes, I think it's nuts they're all running, but they all have space. The multiple rope drops Disney likes to create ensures that there's a growing mob of ppl. for a half hour or standing on top of each other waiting for that next rope to drop.

I'm confused, there are 3 rope-drops within 1 park? I guess that's new since I last visited. How does that work for resort guests that are early-entry?
...Seems like if the CMs delay you at a 2nd rope, and then at a 3rd rope, wouldn't the early-entry time have passed by then?

Yes
1. Wait @ tapstiles. Run.
2. Wait next to Cheshire Cat, if going to Fantasyland. Run.
3. Wait for 9 am drop @ Tangled bathrooms. Run.

I'm always close to the front for rope drop, we never run, I hold onto my kids and we walk briskly. I don't usually see people in a full out run, maybe they're behind me😉. The more aggravating thing to me at rope drop, is the people who think they can go get themselves a leisurely coffee and then shove their way to their family who has been waiting up front. When I hear, "Sorry my group is up here." I think well, that was poor planning on your part. To me that's no different than the people who are 5 deep with one person waiting in line and the rest go to the bathroom or go to get a snack. Then shove their way through the line. I will say, it's different if it's a parent a little kiddo, they could have gone five minutes ago and think they have to go again. But on our last trip full bands of teens and college students were doing that. I side eye that.

I saw quite a bit of this at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure for rope drop last week - the people trying to "Larry" their way up to the front. One day at the rope for Radiator Springs/the Web Slingers side of Avengers Campus, there were some people behind me who had had enough and refused to let the person with coffees for the whole party through. He ended up having to go completely to the other side of the crowd and try to work his way over from there. He had not quite made it when the rope dropped...and I'll admit to laughing when his tray of coffees got jostled out of his hands. On another day I had one woman about take me out with her elbows trying to get to the WS line - and we ended up in the exact same pre-show room. It was all I could do to not stick my tongue out at her when she turned around and saw me.

My "are you kidding me???" moment came at bag check (yeah, they're still manually checking all bags there) when the mother from the group of like 6 in front of me took every single one of their bags so the rest could sprint ahead to the turnstiles. But I got the last laugh because I got up there just as the CMs were getting to their turnstiles and was able to get in the front of the line next to the one they were about 10 deep in in spite of the "dump the bags with one person" strategy they attempted to use.

I also blame Disney for this, and agree with your points.

In addition, Disney has forced more and more people into the parks at rope drop with the demise of FP and addition of park reservations, hopping rules, and especially Genie+. It seems they’re encouraging the stay ahead of the crowd mentality.

Not going to jump on the "blame Disney for everything" bandwagon. We have been going to WDW for years and there have always been runners ... under the old (old) FP system the recommendation for getting a FP for Soarin' was to "send your fastest runner" ... and that was from an oft used and recommended planning site. Runners will run ... idiots will be idiots and the rest of us will just have to watch our backs.

Agreed! This is not completely Disney's fault - and it is NOT exclusive to Disney. Just google pool areas at some at all-inclusives and you'll see videos of people running to claim chairs; unassigned seating at concerts or events and people will be running and pushing to get the best seats; Black Friday sales... Need I go on?

Oh, it’s definitely been an issue for years, but it did get rectified somewhat with FP+. The need for rope drop was lessened. Now it seems rope dropping is more important than ever.

The main reason I give Disney blame is they have full control over how the system is run and who is in their parks. If people are creating safety hazards and Disney doesn’t address it, it does become disneys fault. As an extreme, they could have policy to ban people who repeatedly run at rope drop or to someway lock them out of rides to discourage the behavior. I personally think they could just address it with more staffing or stricter control to attendance if they can’t find staffing to create safe experience.

My wife and I laugh at these big children. Especially the ralkers with their half run half walk like they were about to poop their pants. It’s not exclusive to Disney, but it’s really really bad there now. Still doesn’t hold a candle to the aggressive behavior on main st at fireworks time. I’m surprised nobody has been seriously hurt there.
