I all, I have a last minute trip to LA for work next week. Looks like I will have all day Thursday, July 10th to myself. Should I do one day??? I have never been, but will be alone, no kids or even coworkers. Can I do DL and CA in one day? Should I stick to one park? Which one?
Will it be too hot and crowded to enjoy it?
I am a WDW vet, but know NOTHING about the Land.
My other option is just to do a one day tour of LA with a recommended company on Trip Advisor.

Thoughts?

I would! And I'd go for it with a parkhopper, spend the morning in DL, move to DCA when the DL crowds get thick, hit a good pace, take advantage of single rider lines and then finish out the day back at DL. You won't be able to do everything but you'll have a great day spotting differences and getting to know different parks!

I don't hesitate to visit the parks alone, it's a great way to see them.

There are some great guides on here that highlight the best of the Disneyland Resort for WDW vets; valuable for planning your day. Have fun!

I would choose one park, and depending upon park hours, how one is feeling and next day plans, then possibly visit the next park.
I would choose Disneyland, because it is the original park, then maybe visit DCA afterwards.
The weather may be very warm, but if you visit at or near rope drop, the weather will most likely be agreeable. You can just pace yourself and see how the weather and park guest attendance progresses. Really, how one might prepare for the weather in Florida, is a good measure to use in Anaheim as well in the summer. Florida is more humid and hotter from what CA normally is.
Remember to utilize FP, SRL.
Figure out what you are most interested in doing at the park. Spend sometime being entertained by those most melodious birds, flowers and Tiki at the Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland, all the while sipping upon a nice, cool beverage. :)
I don't recommend a tour bus of potentially stinky people v potentially stinky guests at Disneyland.

you will have an awesome time!!
i'll stick to just disneyland, but you can try doing radiator springs racers around sunset (single rider line)
